cat converter question

Today i took my cat converter off and gutted it out my friend says it could help ur gas milage and or ur horsepower is that true i kno your not sposed to do it but was that the right thang...becuase im getting like 130miles on a tank of gas with my 90 3.0 auto 4runner what you think



P.S atleast some advice would help im not getting much replys latly thanks guys

I think I may have read somewhere that it does increase HP slightly and potentially mpg. I dont know for sure however. Sorry.

Of course there are a few items that will help with MPG. Especially in this day and age. size of tires, correct inflation when it comes to the lbs.(tire wise of course) keeping it well tuned(plugs/wires/cap/rotor), oil/air filter changes. When it comes to your Cats, you'll first want to check with your local/state smog laws. Of course driving conservatively whenever possible always plays a role. Hope that helps.. I know that may be a little more info than what you were looking for but something to also keep in mind especially for us 3.0L High millage guys/gals..

the problem is, on a truck thats 16 years old with the stock exhaust system, the cat converters get plugged up badly, and restrict exhaust flow.

i had my cat taken out and replaced with regular pipe. i've seen 50 to 75 kms MORE per tank of gas since ive done this. only downside is the truck is stupid loud now.
