Catalytic Convertor for 03

Looking for some info on this....my mechanic says it has to be replaced by a Toyota part. Said others don't seem to work properly and then you lose traction control..... Looking for thoughts on this this statement.

Bad cats

As other's will tell you not necessarily , could be your O2 sensors . Takes alot of mi. to foul up those things , check the upstream 1s 1st then work down 4 total . Little cheaper that way & then start looking for junk yards on newer cats.

Thanks for your reply! Can you point me in the direction of how to do that myself and the general cost. What if I replace these and still not fixed? Would I have had to replace them anyway? Thanks again!

If the converter is indeed bad, the best replacement is an OEM unit. However, this is probably the most expensive route. If you want something a little cheaper, look into Magnaflow's replacement catalyst converters. They might last as long as an OEM unit, but if you can get 4-5yrs out of them, you'll still be ahead when you replace them the 2nd time around.
