Ok guys I'm ready to start making and sending out the mounts like the one I built for COB. those of you that have expressed interest are first in line.

1. Mauzer
2. Sleekrunner
3. Opi

So the hole for the antenna will be drilled at 1/2"dia. This seems to ne the most common size though thee are different sizes out there.

My thought is to ship these painted with only self etching primer.

Give me your thoughts and ideas, I still have to check on shipping but it looks like the cost will be in the $20 range shipped.

Quality product guys. If you can't justify mounting your antennas on the hood or just want a mount, this one is great! Just make sure your antennas are tuned correctly!
 
A suggestion
I mounted my Firestick on the rear bumper. I have the chrome bumper and there were several holes already drilled on the bottom lip. I used a straight bracket about six inches and mounted it with a quick disconnect so I could remove it to open the hatch. I didn't like the idea of holes in the body. I ran the cable in the taillight
 
definitely in, seems like a great spot and not interfering with the hatch or having to drill into my bumper is great! wouldnt mind seein a picture again

Here are a couple pics of my test model. NOTE this is about the heaviest antenna I could find. At 50" I tried a medium duty spring and found the thing whipping violently on the freeway and going horizontal while wheeling. I removed the spring and now it works itself loose. So IMO I would not run over 38" firestick type antenna. I have a base load k40 antenna ordered, might need to modify mount for it though.

so do you have to drill on the inside there to mount? I was kind of hoping to get a decent length antenna on there.

No drilling. It uses the. Screws from the rear hatch bumpstop.
The mount is holding up to the whipping of this heavy antenna. I need to pick up a heavy-duty spring and try it with that.
 
$20 sounds like a fair price to me and I'm definitely still interested. I'm wondering if I could run a spring from the top of the antenna to my yakima and reduce whipping that way. Either way this is exactly what I've been looking for so let me know when you're ready!:hunter:

im searching ebay at the moment, if you know any truck stops locally you can pick a ton of stuff up there.

Amazon has the Firestik antennas. That's where I'll get mine as soon as I have a mount. $15 antenna plus $20 mount? can't beat that! :bigok:

also, sorry for the double post.
 
Here are some of my pics. Note that if you don't have an antenna that has a ground wire that you must not paint over where you're mounting the antenna as to keep a constant ground.

To add on to what driffter mentioned earlier: I have a 48" (4 foot) antenna and it has no problems. I have driven about 1-2k miles since install. It's been through trails, freeway, what have you. No loosening here, but I have a lock washer installed too.
