I have had my CB installed but i guess my mic never has worked. I can hear everyone just fine, but the mic doesnt work. I though i had it tuned correct and everything but tried a 2nd mic today and still not working... Havent been able to find much on the issue and looked at that thread just below on his CB not working either but no help. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the issue? I have a 4' firestick, with a Cobra 19 ultra 3 CB installed. Any ideas, tips, tricks would be helpful! And this CB did work in the past in a previous 4runner that i owned as well.

What kinda cb are u running in your rig if I may ask. Also give me a actual pic of the CB so I can see the setting u have on your CB and were your actually set to
CB and antenna are up there^^ i will have to grab a pic of it in the morning though for ya and then ill post it in. I dont think so much that it is a setting on the CB itself though because there really arent any settings other than the volume, channel and squelch on the CB. Essentially this is the CB that i have. Ill post a pic though later when i get a chance to grab a pic.

#1 Turn the squelch down that for fine tuning noise when ur talking to someone a car or two back on the highway it takes away the noise basically...
#2 Figure out your local channel that ppl in your city talk on or just listen in the background u will pick it up pretty quick...
Here is where your problem comes in what you are hearing when you're on a channel is skip .Skip (or DX) is a name we use to describe atmospheric conditions that allow for radio transmissions to travel long distances. These conditions can bounce signals from state to state or even from country to country. it will sound like a circus on the radio and you will key in and no response to your keying in on the channel its a Atmosphere thing. problem is they are states away and u are at home. This is were finding out what channel your locals use until then u are probably hearing skip. Try this turn to channel 19 and key your mic and ask for a radio check see what happen now idk what antenna your running or if you are using a linear (amp) but u are going to want to be near a interstate when u try the channel 19 (CH19 is the universal channels for truck drivers all over the USA)..

Well main issue is that when im in close proximity with buddies out on a trail... i can hear them. But they cannot hear me. Found that out today... then tested a buddies mic thinking it may be the mic and still nothing... so im wondering if it has to be the tuning with the swr meter? or just that maybe the CB went bad. because we were all on ch 22 and all pretty close to each other when i was testing it today and previously. Im kinda leaning more towards either a bad tune of the CB or else maybe i do need to get a different antenna.

make sure that button for pa/cb is on cb, i had that problem and almost scrapped my cb until i messed with a little and found it was on the wrong setting.

Does the meter bounce when u key the mic? and is the PA selected on the Cb by mistake causes the same issue.

If SWR has been tampered with and your CB is putting out 4 watt and receiving 4 watt back that could fry the radio because the ratio is off. Typically SWR is pre set at the factory with fire sticks. Setting swr is a art because u have to basically in a open field or on top of mountain to set them correctly.

My buddy has gone through three of those cb's doing the same thing you describe. We have been thinking it might be antenna related. They usually last a couple wheeling trips, then crap out. I'm interested to see what you find out

You could score a cadillac of a cb on CL between 50-100. If u do end up swapping mic best boom for the buck is a super star mic

Huh. Interesting. My ex father in law and i tuned mine in my last one and it worked fine for awhile. It was just until this one that it crapped out on me... I guess its time to go pick up another. At least they are pretty cheap...
I am honestly thinking it went to crap and was either grounded out or else not tuned correctly and fried it.
