CB Install in a useless pocket

I wired up my CB today with a PA and 3' firestik. After about 4 hours to install it, I accidentally keyed the mic while the antenna was in my trunk. I haven't SWR'd it yet so I don't know if i blew the finals and it's hard to hear anyone on CB because it's philly and I'm dead center of the city. Let's pray for the best when my SWR meter comes.

Anyway, here is the install. It's a midland compact unit. I had to cut out the bottom of the pocket thing and shove the CB in there and affix it with double stick interlocking tape (heavy duty velcro)

I installed the PA behind my grille. I'm thinking of making a mic stand out of some spare angle and double stick taping it in the space next to the CB and having the mic sit right above it.

Nice! Looks great! I have the same Comet RS720 mount & 3' Firestik, although from the angle yours looks more like a 4'.
 
Your finals will be alright. It's not like the midland is throwing 25+ watts, or my case
25+++++++ watts.

I do like how you have your setup though, wish mine was small enough to fit somewhere like that, easy access.

PA is already awesome... I put my phone next to the cig lighter in teh fold over pocket

You think? I'm a little paranoid, I guess I'll find out with the SWR reading

The CB would be nothing without the PA. Those wheeling trips here and there where the CB comes in handy doesn't hold a candle to driving around playing strange sounds through the PA and getting looks. My favorite so far has been the ice cream truck song :D

Ok, I'm going to let you worry even more, they tell you NOT TO TURN YOUR RADIO ON WITHOUT A ANTENNA WIRED TO IT, do to burning the finals up.:Cry:

There are all kinds of base units around back east. When I do runs with these guys out west, I tend to p/u a lot of them on mine, but, I'm pushing 200+ watts on a mobile base unit.

I mounted my CB in the same spot in my 2003. It was a bit long so I had to modify the AC duct going to the back. Then it was still a little too long so when I flipped the console top over it did not sit flat.
Other than all that I liked the location.

On my 2005 I mounted it under the bottom of the dash above the gas pedal. This works much better for me.

I took a dremel with a side cutting bit and just went at it. i basically had to take out 90% of the pocket and some plastic tabs underneath. I can snap some when I do my SWR readings on Friday. I really like the way it's integrated, I'm just at a bit of a loss with what to do with the Mic. I'm thinking I'll try and fab a stand...
