cb install

so after wheeling w/ a couple local clubs i decided that communication is the next most important mod. (obstacles that have changed and oncoming vehicles on a narrow tail.)
so i bought the cobra mini cb from walmart. itsonly 35 bucks!!! then got the wilson little will from a local truck stop. ( it was actually cheaper than ebay)

so i tried to put it under the aftermarket deck in the 20 dollar rip off piece of plastic bucket that fills the gap.with the antenna attached it wouldnt fit. so, i tried playing with the ashtray location. guess what, it fits!!!

so i had to trim out the very back end of where the ash try fits and used a lil bit of metal strap and wa la.

the antenna wire runs under the passenger side plastic kick trim.

looks good i had my uniden pro510 in the ashtray ive now changed it all out to a much bigger uniden pc76xl and 108'' whip should see the stuff i hit with it

That is a great spot to put it, I am looking at getting one as well. Where did you put the antenna? Does that CB have a PA output? Any idea of range with the little will?

yeah, the cb has a regular output. from the researsh i did everyone said ant. is important. so i bought the cobra witch fit into the ash try with minimal triming. the ant came with amazing reference(i was told the lil will is better than a lot of whips). oddly the local truck stop had it cheaper than ebay.

From what Ive read/heard that is correct. all CBs sold in the US have only 3watts of power, but, you can get them "tuned and peaked" (about $40) which will bump the power up to 5 or 6 watts.
Then antenna should be "tuned" (set the SWRs) to get best performance from it. To set the SWRs check here: http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs/Setting_SWR.htm

I have that Unit as well, im very pleased with it. I ripped the fm/am antenna out and I mounted the antenna in that spot.

the lil will is magnetic and comes with the cable. so i store it behind the passenger seat. when i go wheelin i just pull it out and stick it on the cab. easy and clean.
