The 75WX is a bit pricier than others because it has everything in the hand unit. You can find the regular ones for about $50 for a good one. Antenna and mounts are ~$30.
Make sure you get the antenna tuned. Most CB shops can do it for you or you can buy a SWR meter and do it yourself if you do a little research. Most meters are under $20.

Many people in 4x4 Clubs are using CB for communication. I also found that some of them using SSB (Side Bands). They give more range compare to regular AM. As for now I found just 2 CB Radios with SSB:
- Midland 79-290
- Cobra 148 GTL
Does anyone know other models? Who else is using SSB?

Unless all your friends have SSB, it might not really be worth it unless you use it all the time on the roads as well as off road.
I don't think you'll get much responses here since there's only a few guys that really offroad and need CBs.
I've been happy with my 75WX but there's a few Cobra models (18 or 19 somethings) that lots of guys over at yotatech use and they love them.
Don't forget the antenna. It's probably more important than the radio you use. I hear Wilson makes the best. I found out AFTER I bought a Firestik :bash: .

But we use to use 400-600 channels CB with AM and FM, plus we use SSB there. Europe regulations saying that maximum output is 10W (4W in North America), but my local authorities allowed us to use amplifiers. So I had ALAN 48 Excel with EuroCB amplifier. But I couldn't find any radios like the ones we used in Europe here in North America.

The magnetic ones leave marks on your paint no matter how careful you are. If you care about your paint's finish, skip the magnetic antennas.
I didn't want to drill holes in the dash or have a clip that I would rarely use. It comes with that little clip to hang on somewhere so I just use that when I'm using the cb.
What sucks is no one else around here is using a cb so I rarely use it at all. I get around 4-5 mile range with my current set up and it's fun for long trips.

Hehe...you ppl, your cbs, and 4-5 mile range...I regularly enjoy a 40-50 mile range on 2 meters (146MHz) and once I upgrade my license to the next class, I'll be talking around the world from my 4runner. Gotta love ham radio...not to mention the license is "free"...all you have to do is pay for the test ($13) and renew (for free) every 10 years. I regularly convert my cb friends to ham and they are usually very happy...

P.S. I need 27Mhz for off-roading. 4WD Clubs are using CB or FRS radios.

:The benefits do come to play every now and then. I once was able to relay some traffic from cb over to a repeater on a ham frequency and use the phone patch to make a phone call to an emergency agency to get the remote party help. 'twas much appreciated! For those of us that like to be "connected" when the cell networks don't reach, it's handy.
Not to mention when you get to HF frequencies, you're able to contact people around the country (and world when conditions are right) right from the driver's seat of your vehicle.
