CBI Ditch Light Brackets - Not Fitting

Has this been resolved or are people still having issues with these mounts?

No need to trim anything. I have mine sitting perfectly flush without cutting any of the plastic. Just get a good heat gun, heat the plastic up and slam the hood. After three times, I was good to go.

Most of the cheap LEDs sold on Amazon are all the same just companire slap their name on it and raise the price. OPT7s run $49 and Shanren runs $25 for a set of 2 lights. I think the floods aren't bad. Havent had the chance to check out the spots. Any pics of the beam before you took them off?

My hood has finally leveled off now. It took it about two months or so and it has finally worn down some and settled. Sorry, I dont have any pics of the other cheaper lights on it.

For me, I have not mounted any lights yet. I am interested to hear what other have to say about this question though as I am deciding on lights. When I open my hood with just the brackets it does not look like there is very much clearance at all. I am honestly a little worried about it. And if these mounts are this tilted for everyone I am hoping for something with side to side adjustment as well as back and forward. This tilt is really bothering me.

I am running the Light Cannons with no clearance issues. Granted it is close but it is not contacting the windshield or A-pillar.

Are you guts mounting the brackets inbetween the hood and hinge?? That would account for 1/2" of the hood being raised.

So I just purchased one of these CBI brackets to mount my antenna for my CB. How should they be mounted and is trimming required of the plastic? I have yet to install this, but I plan to try and get this installed this weekend. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. I want my hood to sit flush and not have this gap problem everyone is experiencing.

The issue is that before the bracket comes out from under the hood it tries to occupy the same space as a very tough bit of plastic (on both sides) that makes up the front drainage system.
The plastic is thick and tough enough to actually bend the hood hinges upwards when you close the hood.
I cutout the plastic from where the hinge hits it and only have a tiny bit of gap, but others have used a heat gun and got it really hot and closed the hood making it deform around it (Much better than my hack job).
The brackets could be redone a bit to follow the hood line closer and wouldn't be a problem. Maybe a change in the hood design and front drainage areas on the 5th gen over earlier models or something causing it.

Hey Harko - I think I was the first person to protype the 5th Gen Brackets - what you are describing is not uncommon. If you have a large gap, you are likely to have an issue, but even installed correctly, there is a tinnny difference in the gap size. My hood still closes safely, and it has settled to the point of being unnoticeable to me. I am not sure if anyone has gotten it to sit perfectly flush, and I am not sure if we know why. As far as I can tell, it really doesn't come into contact with anything other than a very small corner of the plastic trim between the hood and windshield. I believe the contact is only on the drivers side of the hood.
Do you have any photos of the gap? This is what mine looks like - if you go to Flickr you can zoom in. Very minimal. But defiantly something I noticed immediately when I installed them. Either the little trimming I did, or the weight just settled. Never look twice now.

I trimmed the plastic, I started to heat it but as someone mentioned it's pretty tough plastic and being so close to the windshield I didn't want to crack it, so I trimmed as per the instructions. I did find warming the plastic then using a utility knife it cut though it nicely. My hood is perfectly flush, also both of my brackets are slightly angled.

Installed my CBI ditch bracket after work today. Glad I read this thread before installing. I heated the plastic underneath and closed the hood several times molding to the bottom of the bracket. No gap. Baja squadrons will be here tomorrow
