CBI Front Hitch Install

I just received my CBI front hitch and had some questions regarding the installation.
I noticed on picture #6 of the installations pictures there are two mounting brackets on the ground next to the orange floor creeper. I was wondering if these brackets had to be left off now that the hitch is in place. I'd hate the idea of leaving some of the stock brackets off.

Hey, has anyone mounted a CBI high clearance front receiver hitch on a Gen5 Limited? I contacted CBI to check compatibility but they didn't know --they have received the question before but have no information. They did convey that the distance from the front of the receiver to the frame mounts is 11 inches. I want the receiver to sit behind the license plate mount and the 11 inch dimension is useful but I don't know if the license plate mount is in the same spot vertically on the Limited as the other trims. CBI doesn't do any custom work at present so that option is off the table. Many thanks.

I have the trail and it fit quite well. I cant imagine there is much difference between the trail and the limited in regard to the frame structure, although I can’t say about how it would protrude from the front bumper or grill. IF CBI Can’t tell you I’m, not sure who could. I think the only way to find out is to find someone who has tried or to try it yourself. You could install it on the frame and then bring the bumper up to see where the hitch hits it on the vertical.

Overall what the consensus on using this with a winch cradle? Seems to hold up to pulls?

Considering going this route and have the ability to winch from the rear utilizing quick connects. As much as I would love steel bumpers I really don't want to spend another 5k.

Meh nvm. I read you basically have to straight pull with a basket or you can mangle it.

After a 10 plus week wait my CBI high clearance front reciever arrived. Sucks to wait but they are the only high clearance front receiver maker around.

Worth the wait for quality and needed performance.

Came with all bolting, hinge and stainless bolting for front liscence plate cover. Excellent weld quality and finish, fit 99.9% perfect, had to tweak on a side mount, no biggie.

Did not have to cut front air dam for grill as others mentioned. Was 3.5 hours bang on install alone, with plenty of coffee breaks. Used a bike lift to hold things while I bolted up. Took lots of time measuring and lining up bumper cut out.

Awesome product, sadly no listed or available load rating for it. I plan to use for winch on a receiver plate when needed, and possible dirt bike mount. I will keep pull angle within 20 degrees of the hitch to prevent side loading, and follow usual less than 500 lb. Tounge weights.

Winch will stay dry and clean in a plastic tub inside the 4Runner until needed, 25 ft extension to use on rear, permanent quick connector on battery. Few 20,000 lb snatch blocks, extra 85 ft of syn winch line, slings, shackles..... not much I can't get unstuck from now

Now I just need a cool front plate ! No front plate province

Im looking at the same for my 2021 only because I dont want to install the winch buper. I can use the Warn 10s with a hitch receiver in front or back as needed. I think it's more practical that way.

I just mounted the CBI high clearance front receiver hitch on my 2012 SR5. It punches right through the lower grill however it is touching and putting the slightest pressure on the bumper. I'm very happy with it though. Extremely clean looking, and very well built.

I was hoping to buy one for my soon to be 4Runner. I have a front receiver hitch on my 1996 Bronco and it's super for navigating trailers into garages and other tight spaces that would be very difficult or impossible with just a rear receiver hitch plus I could use my winch on the front or rear as needed.

Have to look for another supplier that offers a high mount like the CBI did or do a DIY fabrication.

I have thought about making a custom hitch, but not having access to the tools to do the job and vehicle downtime for fabrication is pushing me toward the Curt 31367. If it is as simple as removing the front plastic trim to make it fit ,then this might be a solution. I worry about front ground clearance issues. My biggest problem is getting on and off the ferry. I never know the conditions and what those approach angles are going to be. I watched last year as one guys rear attachment kept getting hung on the deck of the ferry as he tried to exit to the island.
