CBI Front Receiver Hitch

Keith_PDX

Finally got around to installing my CBI Receiver Hitch, and learned a bunch doing it. It it's O.K. With you I'd like to post some things for people to be aware of in the installation of the mount on your thread with a pic or two... Cool?

I like it on my 2015 trail

My 2 cents. I installed the CBI receiver a few months ago.

I was a bit nervous about the CBI because of the need to remove the bumper cover and the required trimming. Turns out those weren’t big issues. Removing the cover was no problem, many posts about that. The trimming, take your time and measure well and not an issue. The license place normally covers the cut out so it doesn’t have to be perfect. The biggest pain I had was bolting the stock bumper support to the CBI. CBI did not supply nuts for that and the stock nuts just didn’t fit. I had to hit the hardware store and find some that would fit, sorry don’t recall the size. That and very little room to get a hand in when bolting it up. Anyway, maybe just me but this was a real pain in the ass.

Overall though I really like the CBI. On my 2007 I had the Curt and the loss of ground clearance from hanging below the bumper was noticeable. On the 2015 I have full RCI skids and no need to remove any, if I had gone the Curt route again I would have had to lose the front filler skid.

I don’t use it for a winch but use a cargo carrier with a heavy cooler. Rock solid.

Here is 4runner with front receiver + winch basket

Just got off the phone with CBI, who were very helpful. Turns out the issue with 2010-13 models is the front grill/bumper cover configuration; nobody knows whether the receiver will end up going through the grill, the bumper, or (worst case) both. So I will be the test case and find out! Will try to document the process and post results here.

Man this is great. I may go this route vs SSO hybrid.

Apparently CBI has also a hidden winch option though, the front hitch gives the flexibility and option of moving the winch basket front and rear depending on needs.

I wrote to CBI asking about their front hitch as I could not find it on their website.

Update - I have not gotten a response back from CBI, nor had time to call them

I just mounted the CBI high clearance front receiver hitch on my 2012 SR5. It punches right through the lower grill however it is touching and putting the slightest pressure on the bumper. I'm very happy with it though. Extremely clean looking, and very well built.

Looks good. When did you buy it and how much?

This will be my next big project. I will be using it for a winch set up that I can move front or back. Basic reasons for this particular mod are 1) day to day driving weight, 2) size and 3) Stealth. Thanks for the pics! :yo:

I bought it about a month ago from PF Adventure ended up being about $450 with shipping (to CA). Pretty darn high compared to a Curt or something, but well worth it I think. Cheaper than a full bumper, and lighter too

Can’t find it ... I can find the hidden winch for the 5th gen but not the hidden hitch. Did you call them or you order it online?

Wow, I can't find it either. I definitely just ordered it from their website. You should give CBI a call. I heard they recently updated their website and some things may not have made it back online. Mine shipped right from CBI last month, so I know they're making it.
