No a big update but, as I mentioned in another thread, finally fixed my loose steering by putting a shim in the tilt mechanism. Can't begin to describe how satisfying that is.
My friend [MENTION=326755]rightyouareken[/MENTION] picked up a very clean 3rd gen recently and I was amazed at how clean his seats looked compared to mine, almost another color. Decided to degrease and scrub mine down and was shocked to discover how dirty mine were. For those that haven't read through the thread, it was stolen for a couple weeks a few years ago and the interior got trashed, I'm sure that didn't help.
And just clicked past 190k this week
I've been talking about doing suspension for probably years now and other car stuff has always taken priority and its been pushed to the back burner. I am definitely lifting it soon and am about 99% decided on the Sonoran Steel 1.2 kit with the Radflo coilovers. Will update once that begins.

Haha, what up man! There are a few of us from BFC on here lol I went through a bunch of BS getting rid of the play in mine but ultimately it was well worth it. Hit me up if you have any specific questions.

To update: SPC UCA's and new OEM ball joints are sitting in my garage, SS 1.2 lift with Radflo 2.5 coilovers ordered yesterday and on the way!

Based on the threads I've read I'll be able to knock out the play in the steering shaft tomorrow after mowing the yard and before it gets too hot outside.
One of these days, I'll make a build thread for my Runner. But then it's actually a project and not just daily transport to work...

wow, i just went through your build thread and the attention to detail is fantastic. my buddy has a 98 and saw my 99 center console and told me he wished he had the 99 center console; ill have to inform him we can retro fit it. glad you were able to fix what the crackheads broke/messed up. thats love! also diggin the wheels. 5 spokes are the best.
i also saw you bagged your BMW. thats cool to see other people here have such a different interest than 4runners. i just recently sold my factory manual sportdesign is300:

Thanks! The center console retrofit is easy but make sure your buddy gets the Ebrake bracket with the console as it needs to be relocated.
Very cool IS300, always been a big fan of them.
No thread updates as I am still waiting on the SS1.2 kit.
Quick build question
Hello, I’m new to this forum and new to working on Toyota. I’ve built and own sever older ford trucks in their 9th gen line. My girlfriend loves the 99-02 4Runner but especially the exterior look of the SR5. We can’t seem to find an SR5 in that year range that has all the interior extras she wants but I’m coming across quite a few limited trim models that do. My question is, would I be able to swap out the bumpers/grill from the limiteds painted set to the chrome set of an SR5 in the same year?

I have a 99 limited. The flares and cladding are held in place with bunches of holes in the body. The arches and rockers are manageable if you find SR5 flares, but the cladding requires filling a ton of holes in the doors. It can be done, but it's not an insignificant amount of work.

I think it will be more time, effort, and money than it is worth. Limited's look better anyway

Just waiting on a few more parts to trickle in before starting the suspension. Whiteline LCAB, extended sway bar endlinks, tie rods, steering rack bushings, LBJ bolts, hardware etc. are all on the way.

10 months later and I am finally working on the suspension; I work slow :noidea:
I figured I'm far enough in it to start documenting it now.
To recap, I'm installing the following:
-SS 1.2 Kit with 2.5 Radflo coilovers
-SPC UCA's and ball joints
-OEM LBJ's
-Whiteline Front LCA Bushings
-Whiteline Rear trailing arm bushings
-Energy suspension steering rack bushing
-Energy suspension sway bar bushings
-M Studt extended sway bar end links
-OEM OTR's
I think that about covers it. And sorry for all of crummy cell phone pictures.
First went about cutting off and pressing the UBJ's out.
I couldn't figure out how to get the snap ring on, so I drilled some small holes and used my snap ring pliers.
Uppers installed:
LBJ's were leaking and my driver side castle nut was hand tight, and I didn't even have to press out the ball joint. Scary Scary. I shouldn't have slacked off so long on replacing them.
LCA's out. Used a little jack to keep the axles propped up.
Used a bottle jack to get the bushings out and my press to get the new ones in:
Cleaned up and ready to go back in.
And I threw a new emblem in the front grill. Time to de-gold the back now.

Weekend progress report (Did I mention I work slow? )
New Whiteline steering rack bushings and steering rack installed (not fully secured and torqued down in this picture):
Control arms back in, LBJ's installed, and got the diff drop in.
New tie rods, boot, sway bar and endlinks installed.
And I splurged and bought some Weathertech floor mats. Also ordered Savage Offroad skids Excited to finish and drive this again!

Almost forgot, I changed my valve cover gaskets and half moons again using OEM gaskets. I've always had a leak on the passenger side after initially doing them. So far it seems to be completely leak free now. Took the opportunity to clean and degrease everything in the engine compartment and underneath.
