Hey Guys,

My name is Sean and Im from Edmonton, AB Canada. I recently imported a 1998 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-G and love it!

It has 131,000km's on the clock (~81k miles for you guys down south) and is absolutely mint with not a spec of rust.

I am in my third year of engineering (petroleum) and with being a student I have a limited budget for this truck. I will try and update this as much as I can with anything I get done to it. I don't have many plans for it yet, some minor stuff and of course maintenance until I have some more money.

A bit about my previous cars, I was highly into the european cars right when I turned 16 and here was my first car

1991 Volkswagen GTI (~330,000km had for 3 years)




Next Car

2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8t (~193,000km had for 5 years)

Now to my current ride :cheers:

1998 Toyota Hilux Surf SSR-G (131,000km, had for 1 week know:thumb3





Its first taste of winter:rockon:


The truck is a Stellar Blue I believe its called...?
Automatic and fully loaded for a 1998. Transmission shifts like butter and the engine purrs like a kitten.

Maintenance:

• Once it landed and passed inspection, all the fluids were changed along with new air filter, spark plugs and wires.
• Tires are relatively brand new: 265/75 Geolander A/T's

Engine:

• Stock, no real plans?

Suspension:

• Stock as well, no big plans until the old suspension starts to show its age.

Interior:

• Audio: First thing I did was replace the old Jap. sat nav. to a JVC double din bluetooth, new speakers may be in the works.
• Interior LEDS: Dome's just replaced, waiting on maps and gauge
• Weather tech Liners just purchased will be here next Monday

Lighting:

• Stock, planning on either HID fogs and LED headlights in the future?

Other

• 2 way autostart remote starter installed (must have up here)

Any recommendations... (I think the running boards are staying on, at least for the winter...):rofl:

Thanks for the link. I have been lurking this site for the last few months after I decided to purchase the truck. Have a general idea what I want to do with it.:cheers:

The rest of the interior lights are next, WT liners and the power antenna is broken so taco whip mod? (even though that seems like a pain in the ass with limited style fenders + flares)

Replaced a few LEDs (interior ones) will post pictures when I get the rest in.

Also took apart the Climate control unit as its starting to have the common button problems, didn't have any contact cleaner but cleaned any noticeable dust and its working again... for now:jaw: so Im going to get some DeOxit and give it a good cleaning once I get the new LEDS. Hopefully this fixes the issue!

The AC compressor was seized upon purchase... not an issue right now with it being the middle of winter but just ordered this... should be here in the spring just in time for the summer.

Some parts came in!



Power Antenna was broken when I bought it so Im going to do the 'Taco Whip' mod once it warms up (~highs of -20 C right now)

What I ordered:
1 x 860035090 - Antenna Holder assembly
1 x 863090C20 - Black Tacoma antenna
1 x 773600E010 - Fuel Door spring (not related but it was broken as well)

Got it from toyotapartsdirect.com which was the best price/shipping combo for us Canadian Folks

Also next plan once the LED's arrive is to take apart the climate control module and do a good clean up and see if that solves the issues (just after taking it apart and doing a quick clean, it got a lot better) Will post on the results, here is my arsenal:

I have a '96 and '97 Surfs that I would love to put those in.

I ordered them from weathertech.ca I got them for the 4runner model and they fit perfect! (maybe could trim a bit around the dead pedal, but they fit fine, another thing is you cannot use the floor hook for the driver side (RHD) the passengers side works with the floor hook)

Also wasn't planning on getting tires as my current Yoko's Geolander AT/s still have good tread, but I walked into Canadian tire and got a set of General Grabber AT2 for $104.98 (CDN) each! Regularly ~220 each here. Word is they may discontinue the series. Anyways got a wicked deal and probably will just store them until I switch out my Yoko's

For the map and dome lights, got the panels off Amazon. Everything else was ordered from SuperBrightLeds

I wasn't planning on getting new tires yet as my current ones still have some good tread, I just couldn't pass up on the deal ($450 for all 4). I think I may wait till next winter, or in the fall to mount them. I may also be looking into new 16" wheels for them as well, but I'll see.

Small update, on my day off.

Got done:

Taco Whip Mod (kind of a pain wrestling with the fender flare and routing the wire but totally worth it as my reception was terrible before!)
Replace the front speakers with my hertz components (still waiting for the rear adapter plates to put the rears)

Don't mind the dirty truck, were getting some weird weather (+10, then -15 with snow, gotta love Canada)

Didn't get any pictures of the speaker install but will take photos for the rear and when I add the sound deadener, rewire the fronts and add the power pack.

So far its a huge improvement just with the fronts:nod:

I did consider the 3.0 diesel but I went with the 3.4 gas for a few reasons:

Reliability (3.4 is much more reliable, the 3.0 has some cylinder head cracking/warping)
Part availability (3.4 parts more readily available)
And the fact we get winter for 6+ months... Haha
