I made this out of paracord and Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate Carabiners (bought from Amazon.com).
I decided to take on this task because:
1. We have behind the seat organizers, but they take up leg room when stuffed with things
2. It just seems like a waste of space up there
3. Easier access for my wife when she needs things, and my 2 year old can't reach it
4. Could have bought a cargo net, trim to size and call it a day, but paracord is very versatile, and so are the carabiners.
Some notes:
1. I was short paracord at the very end, so it looks like crap on one side, but still functional. Despite doing a test weave, and leaving about 6 inches extra, I was still short. I believe my problem was the test weave was with just two strands, I should have tested with three strands, and gave at least an extra feet.
2. I was doing this in the cold. Should have just started up the car, my fingers were freezing.
3. Give myself more time next time, was doing it when the kiddos were taking a nap, their naps are shorter and shorter lately.
4. I would probably make the knots more frequently to make the webbing openings smaller, to hold smaller things. But we'll see if the need comes up for that, then I'll do it proper.
5. Burn the ends so they aren't so frayed.
6. I thought of extending it all the way to the back, but the hooks in the back were too weak. I was pulling the paracord very tight, and if I were to do that to the hooks in the back, I'm sure they would break.
7. The handles are still fully functional
This is just my testing phase, we'll see how it goes, then I'll go back to the drawing board and improve it. For now, it'll be used mainly for diapers, extra clothes for the kids, bags of chips, snacks, etc., anything light. It can NOT hold anything really heavy because it'll block the rearview mirror's view.
Even this jacket/coat was causing too much of a droop
But for S's and G's, it held up this rifle just fine
It didn't block the rearview mirror's view at all
I'll update my experiences and modification with this in the future.
