CEL turning on and off (Knock Sensor)

My CEL came on during a long highway trip. Autozone said knock sensor. Later it turned off for a day or so. Now it seems to come one/turn off every day.

I notice no change in how the truck drives.

Thoughts? Knock wiring harness bad connection? Sensor on it's way out?

You must have missed my thread. I wore my thumb out resetting the code. CEL always comes on with the code and kicks your runner into limp mode.

My truck isnt going into limp mode.

Are you sure about that? It will still run fine but your gas mileage takes a huge hit.

Hmmm, unknown then. I havent driven it enough to take MPG calculations yet.

Pretty standard. If it's a failed sensor or interface to the ECM as soon as you hit 1700 RPM or higher and the ECM doesn't see 7.1kHz it sees it's failed - kicks on the CEL and sends the code. When you get to the point of having to replace the sensor, you need to go OEM! Trust me I know...

You can drive it for as long as you need to if you can successfully reset the code and keep it off for a while or keep your RPM's below 1700. Once the code comes back on your ECM won't be able to retard the timing if it senses knocking/pinging. Remember - the code doesn't mean it sensed knocking it just means it sensed a failed sensor. You'll need a reader plugged in all the time.
