Center cap question

This is sort of a silly question (I'm still a newbie), but does anybody know if I can pop the center cap on the wheels without having to take the wheel off or does it have to be pushed through from inside the wheel? I'm guessing to remove them the wheels have to be off, but there's a chance I can install one without having to do so. The wheels in question are the '06 Limited 18" style. One of my caps is cracked and I want to take care of it a day or two after my new tires go on. Thanks for any help.

Should , try a long screwdriver or your lug wrench . There are little gaps you can see where you slide it in & slowly work it out !

Thanks, but what about putting it back on? That's my main concern.

You just line it up, and pop it back in. Don't worry, the plastic body isn't what's compressing to snap inside the wheel...it's a metal ring inside the cap. It's meant to bend in order to compress to click into the wheel. When you pull off the cap, you'll see what I mean. I just did this recently when I powder coated my wheels
