After reading for a few days about center console lid swaps and saw that a lot of people have had sore luck, or had to use a different lid from another vehicle, I decided to take on the challenge. I found a local Toyota salvage yard (AKA heaven) with TONS of 3rd gens.
I grabbed a center console lid (from a 99?) new right mirror assembly, a "V6" badge from a 2nd gen and a new right rear fender flare. All for $70! Not bad.
Now on to the swap.
I didnt get a good pic of the console lid before but here is a pic of it off. The owner before me drove with his arm up for 168k miles
I had to trim the little plastic tabs so the new lid so it would sit flush on the console.
All the screws and measurements to attach the new lid are the same. The obstacle is getting the little clip to attach in the front and lock in place. As you can see, at first it wasnt long enough.
So I put the clip from my original lid and added 2 screw spacers in the back to give it a little more length to grab the hole
And after I did that, boom! It clipped in perfect and feels more solid than my original console lid!
Very happy with the outcome and now I have some extra storage! Also, the lid sits higher so it's actually more comfortable for my arm to sit on while I'm driving.
I will be repairing the leather/vinyl with a kit I found at Home Depot that works really well. Hope this encourages someone to do the same thing!
