Center Console powerpoint options

I've just purchased a 2005 T4R SR5 after driving my '93 4runner to 195K miles...my '05 has the "Ashtray Kit" in the center console, but, having read through the various threads here, I think I'd prefer more storage, and only need 1 power outlet for my cell phone. I can't, however, find a part number or description anywhere for the original console accessory box.

can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Check out Partznet.com; If you can't find it on their online catalog, give them a call and they'll definitely be able to get it for you.

I inquired about the original (pre-ashtray) insert with several vendors and have not been able to get a part number.

One vendor said "The ashtray kit is an add-on; there is nothing in the blank space if it is not added."

if anyone can help with a part number for the original powerpoint/accossory recepticle I'd be appreciative.

Also, I've seen quite a few posts of folks who have added additional Radio Shack plugs inside the console box, etc, but not any detailed instructions. Could someone explain how to wire an additional powepoint? I'm assuming there is a way to "tap" into an existing outlet, then run wiring into the console itself.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info...I also found a bunch of mods on the web...not all 4Runner specific, but enough to give me plenty to go on for the extra powerpoints.

Now, if anyone can help me with the center console storage part number, I'd be grateful...that one has me stumped!

i got the part number somewhere ill find it tommrow for you....

here is a pic i got from toyotaoemparts.com in
Collision Catalog search for center console and it will give you some options. this is also a cheap place to order oem parts or you can try and have a dealer near you match prices thats what i do.
i think that you want is the part that is number 30 and the cost would be 27.63 from that site.

I had seen that diagram on some parts site, but had not identified part #30 as what I might be looking for, mostly because the illustration of the ashtray assembly (#42 at top) is shown so much bigger! I'm guessing now that this illustration is not to scale...

Thanks for the info!

for what its worth, I dropped by my local Toyota dealer today and had them look up the "original" center console box, and they gave me part #58810-35010, which is the same part as #30 in the diagram in this thread. They quoted me $41.27 + tax, and it was going to take a week or so to get it in. I've ordered it online for around $28 + Shipping, so I'll post when it arrives.

Next project will be to wire a few powepoints into the console and do the "always on" mod....

i just got a reply from toyotaparts.com and its the same part number too i just didnt have time to post it up for yah....srry...i knew it was the right one but kind of unsure... you also might need 32 which is the lid but not sure might call and ask toyota that helped you and talk to the same guy :)

The part arrived and it is the correct original stock accessory bin with one power outlet. Installation was remarkably simple. I much prefer the covered bin to the "open" look of the ashtray kit...but, this leads me several more questions (I have searched and read through the forums)

1. Since there is now an unused wiring harness in my console from the ashtray kit, it seems simple to tap into that power to install a second power outlet (yes, I know I just removed a second power outlet with the "cigarette lighter" but to me it is an asethetic thing)...I'd like the cleanest install possible in terms of wiring, i.e. I don't want to splice/cut the existing harness/wires. Is it posslbie to tap direcly into the existing harness pins and if so, how? if not, what would be the best way to tap into that harness.

2. When working with wiring, I assume it's always safest to disconnect the power from the battery. But not being an electrical expert, does that mean disconnecting from both the + and - terminals of the battery?

3. Lastly, i've read through all the posts I can find about the unused wiring harnesses under the console. But I see a small harness with one red and one green wire to it that I don't recall seeing addressed. Does anyone know what that harness is for?

Thanks for your input...this is a great forum...

and Hook 'em Horns!

1) I guess you didn't see my post earlier in this thread about the "ghetto" method. I did exactly what you're asking.

2) Just pull the negative side and you'll be fine

3) Just a guess since it isn't something I have, but it may be the harness for the heated seats?

yes he is right the two smaller wire harness that is tired up is for heated seats. BUt with the left over wire from the ashtray before cant you just buy a new outlet port and plug it in...it should be the same.

sharp4runr, I had read your post, but had slept since then!!! (short term memory loss!!!)

I do want to avoid splicing into the wiring if at all possible, so thought about trying to find the right wiring harness to fit the old ashtray kit, then splicing into that. Then, if i want to undo it all, it's not all sliced up...

Am also thinking I'd sell the ashtray kit on eBay, so didn't want to pirate it for parts, but I may just do that...
