Center dash modification ideas?

Has anyone done any modifications to the center dash area? I'm tired of putting my iPhone in the cup holder. The ash tray is useless as is the small "pocket/change" area. I have a 99 so the two power outlets are nice, but the rest is a horrible design.
A simple tray or something that will actually hold things would be sweet. Anyone mod this area to make it useful?

I put mine next to the 4x4 stick. Works well. I'd like a mod too tho...
