After replacing the evaporator on 07 4runner SR5 6 cylinders, I noticed the center differential lock button is not disengaging. It seems to be always locked. It switch from 2wd to 4wd fine, I am trying to unlock it while in 4wd. Also the on-off switch has a light bulb and the lights is always off. The moment switch is testing OK. Any idea how to troubleshoot it.

Is the vehicle actually in CDL ON first off? Second off did you make sure all your connections are good?
All connections are good, connection on the back of on-off switch and 2 connectors on the module bellow glove box. When I switch from 2wd to 4wd the Cdl yellow light is flashing on instrument panel and when the switch is made it disappears. The green 4wd symbol is on at instrument panel. Pushing on off button on the left side of steering wheel does not do anything at all and also there is light bulb in the switch that does not illuminate when lights are turned on, light bulb and switch tested ok with ohm meter.
I am assuming you took the dash off? Note that the RSCA and CDL switches have the exact same connectors which can be mixed up. Try switching the connectors on those two switches and see if that fixes your problem. I ended up marking mine with a sharpie so that I wouldn't make that mistake again.

It's very common for vehicles to have wiring for options that didn't come for that vehicle. So as you found, despite not having a RSCA Off switch the connector is still there and some of the wiring is functional.

Glad you were able to find your fix. I have this exact problem. Found out at the beginning of the month when I did my usual monthly 4WD engagement. Just like you there is no longer any light in the switch when the lights are turned on. Is there a separate fuse for this somewhere? Unlike you I have not done any recent work on the truck.

There is 20 amp fuse for 4wd but it is OK since you are able to switch from 2wd to 4wd. If you have ohm meter check your light bulb and switch. There is 4 pins on the switch, 2 on the left side where light bulb is connected should be about 20 ohms and other 2 on the right will be open. Press the switch and hold it pressed the right side pins will read continuity. If all of this check out OK then reset you connections on the 4wd module under the glove box. Also if you are not the first owner of the car and your switch did not work before then you may have 2 connectors switched like I had. Let us know.
