I'll report after i install it this weekend. Not sure how hard the install is on my 05 with OEM spoiler. I do see 2 screws in the back hoping its that easy

I'm gonna have to pick one of these up. Mine is totally dead.
Install went smooth! Fitment on the supplied rubber seal wasn't that great but aside from that it was worth the cost savings.
Steps1) unscrew 2 bolts on the hatch
2) push down on the spoiler with the hatch closed
3) unclip harness
4) unscrew 2 screws on the spoiler holding the 3rd brake light assembly
5) I reused the clip in harness from the oem light and tapped both wires from the new light
6-8) reverse!

arrrghh, seems the pictures have been pulled by flicker, my 3rd brake light has finally crapped out, it was intermittent for a while, need to do this ops asap.

Im in the same boat.. Mine went out on my 07 sport, looking for something viable.. Most of the links posted here are broken. Did you have any luck with replacing yours?

I ended up buying a replacement LED 3rd light from a company in San Louis Obispo, CA (cant remember their name) for like $39. Basically I unscrewed the bad light, pulled as much wire as I could, and cut the wire close to where it joins the bad light. Then I simply stripped the wires on the old connection and new about an inch a piece.
Then I soldered the new light to the old wire and used electrical tape around the solder. I then screwed the new light into the old mount. Light has been working perfect for 1+ years now. Whole thing took maybe 15 minutes.

So kinda reviving an old thread here, but I just had to swap the LED assembly on my 08 SR5.
The swap literally took 10min, you'll need a flat head driver, phillips head driver, 10mm socket, and small adjustable wrench.
The OEM part number for the LED assembly is 81570-35100
Most places have it for sale at or around $170
If you do not want to cut and splice wires.. you need to take the spoiler off.
There is a quick disconnect on the driver side, right where the spoiler meets the roof.
I found a highly useful video on youtube that covers the spoiler removal and installation. I'd give it a watch to give what I say below some context.

To remove spoiler..
1.) Use flat head screw driver to pop off 2 black plastic covers on left and right side. They are near the top of the door at the same height of the spoiler, impossible to miss. Then use the 10mm Socket to remove the (2) bolts holding the spoiler.
2.) There are 2 Pop rivets that are still holding the spoiler in place. 1 on each side, with minimal effort push the spoiler from the top, in a downwards direction. The spoiler should just fall free.
3.) Support the spoiler and position on the roof, get to disconnect on the drivers side, should now be very visable and detach the connector.
Spoiler is free of vehicle.
To remove the LED assembly..
1.) flip the spoiler around to the back, you should see 2 phillips pan head screws. Remove them.
2.) Using a flat head screw driver pry the LED assembly out starting on the bottom and work your way around. You may need to do some wiggling but take your time and the light will pop out.
3.) Locate the end of the power wire in the spoiler that you disconnected. It should be connected to a metal tab holding it in place. Pull the plug out and free it from the tab.
4.) Remove the LED light assembly, you will need to remove the metal bracket and 2 screws/nuts holding the bracket in place. Take note of the positioning of the metal bracket as you will need to reuse it in the next step.
5.) Pull LED assembly free of the spoiler.
At some point here, plug in the replacement LED assembly and test to make sure it works.. FYI!
To reinstall LED assembly...
1.) Reinstall the metal bracket in the same position as noted in step 4 above.
2.) Tie a phish, or piece of longer wire to the end of the quick connect on the replacement LED assembly.
3.) phish the wire through and out the driver side of the spoiler, this should bring the connector plug with it. Attach the plug back onto the metal tab to hold it in place. Take your time and make sure the wire does not catch on the metal bracket from step 1.
4.) With some care reinstall LED assembly with bracket back into light. Take note of lense position as it only goes 1 way.
5.) Reinstall the (2) phillips head screws into the rear of the spoiler.
To reinstall the spoiler...
1.) With the spoiler resting on the roof, position it so you can reconnect the plug from the truck back into the spoiler.
2.) position the spoiler so the the (pop rivets) catch the connection points on the spoiler and press upwards to seat them into the spoiler. (literally reversing what we did previously).
3.) Open the tailgate and reinstall the 2 10mm bolts back into the spoiler. You may want to inspect to make sure its fit is correct.
4.) Place the 2 black plastic toppers back into the tailgate to cover up the bolts.
Test again, to confirm everything is good.
Enjoy a frosty beverage of your choice.
