I'm a newby to this site, and would like to know if there are other Offroaders around Wichita, Ks. who knows where to go around here. There is a place 3 hours west, and one at Manhattan, Ks, about 3 hours away, but would like to know of somewhere closer----if it exists. It is pretty flat around here. After 6 Jeep Cherokees, I got a 2000 4 Runner and want to try it out. Usually go to Colorado or Utah in the fall, but don't want to wait that long.

your neck of the woods there arent too many t4r.org guys on here. im from KC and there are a few of us around here. your right the only off roading our vehicles get to see are dirt roads and country roads. mainly camping or hunting for me.

A perfect example of why mud running is so prevalent in many areas--there just isn't much else to do (as far as fourwheeling) that's any challenge. You can't make a mountain, but you can make a mud hole anywhere.

As a matter of fact, I'll be coming through Salt Lake on another trip on the way to Idaho and Canada earlier in summer. Any good places up your way? I am only familiar with Moab and areas south of I-70. I am going with a friend, but we could take my Yota and hit some places along the way.

I live in Minneapolis MN and there aren't many places around here either. Unless you guys know of any offroading places around here. I have heard of a place around Duluth area but yet to take a trip up there and test my runner out.

Most of the nearby mountains are locked up National Forest and Wilderness areas. There's some moderate wheeling and great scenery in American Fork Canyon, a couple trails at Five Mile Pass, and there's dirt roads everywhere, but you kinda have to get a couple hours south to find serious wheeling. If you do come this way, let me know and I'll see if I can spring free to show you around a little.
If you're looking for hard trails, see if you have time to swing through St. George and check out Sand Hollow. There's some epic wheeling down there.

I haven't talked with my friend yet, but we may take you up on your offer to show us around----if you wouldn't mind being seen with a two 70 year old eccentric geezers. Our wives tell us we are overaged teenagers. He collects antique cars and parts from the 1920s, to 1940s, and I'm not sure what he has in mind for this trip. If he is picking up a large load, we might have to take his diesel truck and trailer. Thanks for the tip about St. George. I heard of that when we went through Kanab last year. Wish I lived closer to that part of of the country. Would likely be another year before I could get down there.

Hey Weezer. I'm in Wichita quite a bit lately. My Mom passed away a few months ago and I am the last of the Mohicans, so I have to handle all the loose ends. She lived in SE Wichita (near Harry & Webb). I've never lived there.
I do not know off any offroad spots, but I could help out with your truck if you need anything. I've disassembled, reassembled, replaced virtually everything on my 3rd gen. I fly in each time and rent a car, but may pass thru Wichita someday with my 4Runner.
Plus, I may need you and your buddy's help as I am about to start a '30 Ford, 5 window coupe project.

the 4x4 recreation area at Tuttle Creek lake is on the west side of the lake, about half way between Randolph and Manhattan, if I remember correctly. Has been a few years since I was there. It is a couple(?) of miles east of the highway on a gravel road. A pretty good area for this part of the country. A lot of rocks, some mud after a rain, and some decent rock shelves.

Wish you had been here this weekend. I am in the middle of putting in a new torque convertor, tranny front seal, and rear main seal. I was a mechanic years ago, but had never pulled a tranny and transfer case out of a 4 R. FUN FUN FUN. I am finding why people hold on to there 4 runners. Compared to Jeeps, they are army tanks. Everything is ready to go back in tomorrow.
Don't know what my friend has in the way of 30s fords. He is more of a chevy and dodge fan. Lives in Oklahoma. Let me know what you need. Another friend here is really into old Ford coupes.
