Good to know that's there is a 4runner group in CenTex. I am fairly new to this site. When I do finally get home for good, I'd love to meet up with some like minded, wheelers in Texas!

How intense are these trails? I have never been there. I would love to go sometime, but I am not a hard-core off-roader. I just like to explore (mostly in the mountains of Colorado).
My 4Runner is our main hauler and my daily driver. So, I can't wheel it like my old 74' Scout II.

First pic is Imogene pass on the Ouray side. Second pic is Black bear pass.
Make sure you do both of them if you get the chance.

There are bypasses and ways to turnaround you could enjoy the place in a rock crawler or a Subaru.

The trails are all very easy, but still very fun and totally worth it. I'll be coming back again. Really no challenges to speak of besides the wall on Poughkeepsie Gulch and even that was pretty much an idle up for me when it was dry. Many of the trucks with smaller tires did struggle on it, but even open open rigs can get up it with the right line and some momentum. I also did it in the pouring rain and hail and that was a little bit sketchy, but still made it. Going down it would be pretty crazy though. So I would plan to approach it from Mineral creek....

The summit is going on, but we were here before and just caught the first two days of it on the tail end of our trip. Headed back to Texas today. The trails got super crowded when the masses showed up... but it was cool to see all the nice rigs. Think I would much rather be here when that is not going on.

Interesting you mention that... We also have a 14' Forester XT (the wife's whip).
I don't know that I will be able to join you guys this weekend, but I would love to another time. Gotta pack up the apartment to prep to move into the house in two weeks!!!

Have you been in a while? I think things have gotten much more difficult in the past few months. Still ways to take it easy, just not like it used to be. Even the fence line became a mess with all the ruts and mud holes that got dug out with the rains. It has become pretty hard to pick mild routes.. although it still can be done.
I try to avoid going out there in Late July and August. It's just too hot and dusty, but I can still be talked into it LOL. Evenings and night wheeling can be tolerable, but you really have to know the trails to have any fun at night.

Crap I haven't been since we've had all the rain. Is it worth going in near stock rigs? Will we be just driving on the service roads?
