Yeah, I am watching the weather closely as we speak man. I was hoping for more of a "spring" type trip but this is the only week I can go for like the next 6 weeks or so. Makes camping tough as well if its that cold and wet. I'll stay in comms this week.
 
For anyone interested, a few of my buddies and I are taking my 4Runner to GWNF on the 15th/16th. We are planning on exploring a lot around Switzer Lake and eventually camping at Flagpole Knob I think. Then heading down to Big Levels early the following morning for a day of fun before heading back home. We've never been there so everything is new to us lol, but if anyone else is going, keep an eye out on the trail for us! :biggrin2:

Like I said if needed you can definitley bunk with us at our house, its an hour maybe 2 to get out from our house to the big levels area if it turns out the weather is crappy
 
Also who knows the trail head location of Big Levels? I am trying to map things out but I am not seeing a clear cut "entrance"

I am seeing these 2 "trails" for big levels to the blueridge parkway but not much else

So I just took a quick trip down Big Levels from the parkway(it's definitely open now). You can either start at the Coal Road entrance and go up the mountain (easier to see in my opinion) or you can take the entrance of the blu ridge parkway and go down the trail. Dealer's choice!

Prelim forecast for now, Snow in the morning at Flagpole and at Big Levels on Saturday morning. High ~42 and lows in the 20's for Flagpole and Biglevels. Sunday in the 50's both at flagpole and Big Levels and lower 30's at night.
 
Up there in the snow is a lot of fun. I would go but I'm taking my brothers kids to cars and coffee in Richmond
 
I will have to pass on going out to GWNF on the 9th. Im still down for camping later this month though. For anyone in the NOVA area, Redclouds in Woodbridge is opening their trail on Saturday as well. The price is a little steep at 65$ a vehicle but I would have paid more in gas going out to Harrisonburg anyway. Looks like they have some vehicle and recovery gear requirements.

Sounds good! 1010 west market street, harrisonburg is the meetup in at 11 a.m.
 
Okay so I will go ahead and post this now, If you are on the fence about coming that is absolutely fine. If you can try and message me on here or call/text me if you intend on coming either day. meet up for Flagpole is on Saturday at 1010 West Market Street, Harrisonburg, VA. we will meet up there at 10:50-11:00 we want to roll out by the latest of 11:15. let me know if you will be running late otherwise we will roll out then. If you plan on camping it will be in the 30's I know a couple of us are getting a hotel near Big Levels and I will be heading back home to Charlottesville since it is an hour away from Big levels.

It was good meeting y'all today. I didn't really take many pics on the trail, but I drove back roads to and from GWNF today and just shot out the window as I drove. Anyway, here's what I have...
