Certified Warranty opinion

What are they saying, that for $500 it will be a certified used Toyota, but minus the 500 you get nothing. Sounds like some kind of game to me, I would tell them its either certified or not and the price shouldn't change. I consider a certified used Toyota worth it for 2 reasons, 1 you actually get a 10 year 100,000 power train warranty w/ any certified Toyota, 2 you have the option of spending around a grand to extend that to a 10/100k bumper to bumper.

I believe it is actually a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warrantee. Thats what I have on my factory Certified warrantee. The 6 year warrantee acually starts the day that your car was
sold, not the day that you buy it, so mine runs out in January 2010. (Mine will still have less than 100,000 miles in 2010) For the price I think it is great insurance. So far they have done nothing except replace my battery, but I will go in soon (whenever I find time) because only one of my horns works. So far my $1000 has only paid out less than $100, but at least I have no worries until 2010, and there is a 75% chance that I will move and sell the car before then, which having the warantee will probably up the value.

Now that I think about it, I think he meant the Certified Toyota warrantee was 7 year (maybe 6?) not a 70,000 mile warrantee. I'm a first time Toyota buyer and I ended up with the new sales person. I'm all for someone learning on the job, but every other question I have he needs to ask someone else.
I think it's a good buy with the warranty (6 or 7 years-100,000 mile). Like you said Pirate VI, it's good insurance. I really like the truck and the only thing it's missing is the compass, but I guess I can add that later.

It is a scam. Toyota Certifed is a warranty offered by the factory and serviced by dealers. It is NOT a dealer option. Toyota warranties vehicles with less than 60K up to 100K for NO COST to the buyer. google toyota certified. there are tons of certified 4 Runners at dealers in your area. as to the dealer you are dealing with.......:awais:

I don't think it's a scam. The dealer has been trying to move this vehicle for over a month? and I didn't bite at their offer. So the sales guy called me a few days later and said they could offer me this certified vehicle without the certified warranty for $500 less and it would only carry the original warranty which was 5 years-60,000 miles. He (the salesman) assumed that I knew how the about Toyota's certified vehicle warranty program worked, I didn't and I admit I was worn out from asking questions and the whole dealer experience, so it's my fault for not getting clearer answers.

RoadKing, you may be correct, it may be 7 years, I just know that at least mine is not 10 years, but I thought it expired in 2010, maybe it expires December 2010.
This is all what the dealership told me when I was purchasing. Of course because it was told to me by the dealership it may not be exact truth.
As long as the vehicle checks out for certification Alaskaman may be getting the $750 certification for $500.
I will find my paperwork and post what it says on here tomorrow. I may be able to scan it in as well.

I posted in haste, the certified is 7/100k and the 7 years starts from original purchase. So my 02 is under warranty until 2009 or 100k, whichever comes first. You are also able to add a bumper to bumper, I went for the platinum for $795 IIRC. I guess if it is not a shady practice to offer it uncertified for less then I would consider it worth $500 extra for the warranty.

ONLY in the interestof clarity do I post this. I am not buying the vehicle that is the other guy. The certification comes at no cost to the buyer so the other guy is paying for a certified vehicle and the dealer is adding $500. Perhaps it is un upgraded plan like the one mentioned in the last post, perhaps not. either way the purchaser should check it out. If the dealer states that they will certify the vehicle for an extra one dollar....it is a scam...Are we clear? "are we perfectly clear" Name that movie, win a certified vehicle.:bash:

OMG. OK I will try once more. The certified vehicle. The certification process as described better than I is not an option. You go to the dealer. They say this vehicle is certified. THERE IS NO EXTRA CHARGE. TOYOTA does this to show the consumer that TOYOTA has faith in thier vehicles. Roger? :bugeye:

I just had a dealer try that CPO bait and switch on me last night. Wanted to charge $477 extra for a vehicle that was already CPOed, which you can see plain as day on the full CARFAX report available online.
