CGuava's Mild Runner Build

Sorry to thread dig, but I have a 3rd gen with FJ wheels and the offset is perfect. I just bought a 4th gen and plan on swapping them over. How much of a spacer are you running?

I think it's the 1.25 Spidertrax spacers. I can't remember for sure though, it's either 1.25 or 1.5, whichever one they typically sell.
 
Geez. That's a lot. Do you happen to know how much of a shim you can safely run? I'd like to space them out but not a big fan of bolt on spacers.

you shouldn't worry too much about the bolt on spacers. spidertrax and all pro wheel spacers are both hub centric, and really high quality. put on the loc tite they give you, torque them to spec, and i can't think of anyone who has had the spacers themselves fail. I've had mine on for over 15k miles, and i tow regular with them, never had an issue.

I just saw a pic on here yesterday of a guy whose front spacer broke and sent his wheel down the street and it hit another car while he was left with his rotor on the pavement.

i know theres one place that makes spacers that are just shims, can't remember where though. i have the 1.25 but don't think id go any bigger than that, simply because of the towing.
 
I would be cautious with a 3/4" shim. You would be losing 3/4" of thread engagement for the lug nuts.

I think if you buy spacers from a reputable company, you would be fine. It's the guys that machine their own 3" spacers our of mild steel that have the crazy issues. Reputable company typical means they've done their research, and produced a product of the right material and specifications. I wouldn't hesitate to run 1.5" spacers from All Pro of Spidertrax.
 
Long time no update. A few minor changes to the rig over the last month or so. First of all, a good friend of mine, Scotty, Addicted Offroad needed to R & D a 4th gen bumper so he built one on mine. I think it came out great! The team over there has some top notch fabricators and the bumper is well engineered (I'm a structural engineer). I felt a little bad putting the old bumper away, as I had so many hours into it, but overall, this bumper looks really good and I wouldn't hesitate to hang my 4runner off of it.

Then, I talked to Josh at RCI (just down the street from Scotty in FoCo) and jumped on his group buy a month or so ago. Josh is a great dude with awesome skid plates. I can't wait to order a gas tank skid and A-arm skids from him. He took me through a lot of his work, and I can say that he takes a lot of pride in what comes out of his shop.

Speed holes!!!





I also am building an expedition tear drop trailer, and I wasn't satisfied with how bad the 4runner squatted when I had my car hauler on it. Scored some Allpro 3.5" Springs and a pair of Icon Shocks. I can say that it's now at the perfect height, and the added spring rate will definitely keep the back end from sagging too much.

I'm going to sell the other bumper, just haven't had time to do it. I'd probably open it up to locals first though, as I've already had a few inquiries. I'll keep you updated!
