Ash tray Console / Change container cover won't stay closed in console?

Could someone help me with this issue: The "cover" for the ashtray, phone charger/coin thing isn't staying closed. When I push it wont stay closed but go back to the open position. How do i get at the console to remove it, fix the spring, etc? Anyone else have this problem??? Its the ashtray cover to the left of shifter. Also, would my extended warranty cover this? Im at 57k but also purchased the extended warranty that should cover everything to 100k miles right? Thanks

I pulled my storage box out, and this is the latch on one hinge. I stuck a small, plastic wedge between the end of the box and the console, that seemed to open up the console enough to wiggle and pull the box out. The first pic shows the box open, can't see the latch there. The second shows it closed, the curved track is visible, with a little grease in the end. There's an obvious spring that lifts the lid, there's also a small spring that holds the curved track/latch, make sure that spring is holding it.

Sorry the pics are a bit fuzzy, and there's a lot of debris visible there. It's a good chance some debris or beverage is in there gumming up the works on yours.

Mine was broken when I bought it new. I think someone tried to open it without knowing to push it first. It has been almost 7 years now but I think the little ashtray part just pops out. I had to reposition the spring on the cover and it has worked fine ever since.

Thanks to the original poster. I pulled my tray out years ago after looking at these images and could not figure out what he was talking about until yesterday. It is the pin (D) that needs to be depressed enough so it is running in track (A). Also make sure that the springs (B and C) are in place. If your cover door springs but does not catch, It is the pin (D) not in the track (A) or not extended from the plastic to catch in the groove. I used a pushpin to depress the pin (D) just below the plastic and filled the hole with a dot of superglue. Be careful not to push the pin all the way thru. Now it works perfectly. Hope this helps.
