Change front diff to match the rear gearing

Little back story, i went to pick n pull and got an e-locker off of a 1997 4runner but i have a 99. I asked on facebook if it would fit and they said yes but it has to match my front gearing. I dont know my gear or the e locker gearing. So my question is can i just swap out the front diff from the junk yard 4runner and put it in my 4runner?

Junk yard 4runner: v6 4wd automatic. Door sticker reads A04A

Mine: 4cyl 4wd manual. Door sticker A03A

Yep, I just did exactly that. Chances are you have 4.10's and the e-locker is probably a 4.30. Just swap both to be safe.

I would go back and grab the front diff from the same 4runner you got the locked rear diff from. As a general rule A05A -4.56 A04A -4.3 A03A -4.1 A02A -3.9. Always best to do the spin test or count gears just in case somebody swapped things different from the factory

Swapping is cheaper than regearing. Good time to change the CV seals.

It's not bad, just follow Tim's video and you will be good to go. It's messy so have lots of brake clean and paper towels ready.
