Charcoal Canister Pump Module

So, it appears my Vent Switch Valve is stuck open which on the 2005 4runner is apart of the Pump Module thats it attached to the charcoal canister, and triggering code P2420

anyone have an extra pump module laying around? lol

is there any way to possibly clean it out or change it w/o having to drop $400+ on a new canister assembly?

If you disconnect the pump module, peel back the wire loom on that wire harness you will find a broken wire. Had the same issue on my 06 SE V8. Hope this helps!

Victor... you nailed it wire was indeed broken (you think Toyota could have spared 1" as not to turn the wire 90 deg.)

ordered the wire and pin, replaced pin soldered wire /shrink tube and electrical tape

reset computer and codes are gone now for 3 weeks... passed inspection as well

Mind posting a picture of the damaged wire location for future reference? Might help others from needing to replace a component that could be repaired easily.

Bringing this thread back from the dead, but I finally got around to fixing my P2420 tonight. I had a broken wire on the pump module as well. In my case, it was the blue wire with the white trace. It broke right at the plug, so I opted to buy a new plug and 7 new wires. This gave me the option to extend the harness as well as giving me fresh wires that haven't been pulled tight and corroding for the last 10 years. And since pictures were requested...

As you can see, the broken wire is missing quite a bit of wire. It's astonishing that I haven't thrown this code much sooner.

Plug- 90980-12380
Wires- 82998-24250

My '06 V8 took 7 wires, so my total cost to repair was just under $50. Much better than $700+ for a new charcoal canister.

I know this is part of the gas tank and fill nozzle but where is this wire located? Hard to see from the pictures.

This plug goes to the pump module on the charcoal canister. It's attached to the body right above the spare tire. It's not too difficult to get to and now that I've extended the wires a bit, I hope I'll never have to deal with P2420 again.

Truthfully I can't either. The harness is stretched ever so slightly here, but not to the point of pulling wires in two. My CEL has been on for a few months while I put off buying a new charcoal canister but by the time I noticed the broken wire (which, somehow, I didn't see a few months ago when I first checked) it was definitely weathered and corroded. The sheathing was still holding the wire together until I finished pulling it apart for the picture. I can't see something chewing halfway through one wire then giving up, but at the same time I haven't seen too many of Toyota's harnesses fail if they haven't been exposed to extreme heat.

05 4Runner broken evap wire harness

Does anyone have those part numbers for an 05? The ones listed are for a 2006 and I’m not sure that they will work for an 05. Pins broke inside the wiring harness and I can’t find it on a wiring diagram anywhere. Thanks!
