Charging AGM batteries

I recently picked up an Odyssey battery for the 4Runner. I have tested it with the fridge for 4 days with out starting and had no issues.

I forgot to plug the fridge into house power after washing the 4Runner on Sunday. I went out to check something and the lights don't come on at all.
It appears the cut off switch in the fridge may not function correctly.

Anyway, the battery is down to about 5 volts. Can it be charged with a standard battery charger, or do I need to get one specifically for AGM batteries?

When I hook it up, the needle pegs to the top in the red, shows 0 charge and makes a really bad sound.

I have Amazon Prime and Amazon now is in my City so I ordered it and Amazon brought it to me same day. Works for my stock Panasonic lead acid battery and AGM Optima Batteries. It has a microcontroller that figures out voltage and all that for AGM vs. Lead acid. Good price.

I'm currently charging mine on a Battery Tender that I've had for years. Since it has SAE two-pin plugs, I can plug it into the waterproof connector I'm also using for my portable solar panel. Since it's hardwired to the battery I don't have to pop the hood to hook up any clips etc.

They seem pretty well-reviewed on Amazon, and seem to be a much more compact package than the Battery Tenders. Although the BT has been around for years, if I was buying brand new right now it'd have to be the Noco. They're also IP67 waterproofed.

I guess I am not understanding the benefit of having the actual charger mounted on-board other than having it with you if you are somewhere other than home for an extended period of time that has power.

So reading the procedure for recovering a deeply discharged Odyssey battery, I need to hook up a good battery to the Odyssey until the Odyssey reaches 11.5v-11.8v then hook up a minimum of a 25 amp charger.

Since I don't have access to a 25 amp charger, any thoughts on how to get around this?

I think the battery is worth the added expense from a smart charger. I think the Noco stuff is well made and designed for long term usage. I used a waterproof 10 amp dual setup in the old truck....had it mounted on the air filter lid. It was wired with a NoCo plug on the front bumper that you just plugged it into an extension cord to the house. I generally charged both batteries Sunday night......never had a bit of problem
 
If you finally give up on the vehicle fridge, I recommend a good Igloo cooler. :-)

Mine will hold ice for 3-4 days in the hottest of weather if kept in the shade.

Not giving up on the fridge. The negative connection was loose so I don't think the battery was getting completely charged and between the fridge and other electronic drains happening.....

Will do some more testing and see if the fridge is actually doing what it is supposed to.

And I sold my 5 day cooler when I got the fridge. Although the cooler was nice, the fridge is so much better. I just need to make sure I remember to plug it in when the 4Runner sits in the garage,
 
The first charger I used was constantly overheating. It was 60 degrees out side and I even put a fan on it and it's own internal fan was running but it would still overheat within a few minutes. Grabbed a different charger. This one had a 30amp boost setting. (not much available at 6am on a Sunday morning)

Hooked that one up and saw that the battery was still only at 10.3v so took the charger off and hooked the battery back up to the Honda's battery and let them sit for another hour. Checked again and voltage was up to 11.3 so hooked the charger back up and set it for the 30 amp boost. Checked it an hour later and it seemed to be charging fine, so went to bed.

Got up this evening, charger was in standby and the battery showed 13.5 volts. Disconnected the charger and will let the batter sit for the 12 hours unconnected to remove the charging surface charge voltage and see if the voltage holds at 12.84 volts. But so far it is looking good. :clap2:
