Chassis / Body Rust Question

I'm an old guy.

What ever happened to the shops that specialized in rust proofing cars ?
Used to be a major business.

They would advertise on TV that they had special wands to stick into the doors and panels and spray with some grease/wax combo.

"Undercoating" of cars was common as well. I bought lots of that service.

Cars probably have better rust proofing from the factory these days but not enough from the looks of some of the T4R frame rust pictures on this forum.

Have you always been in Atlanta, even in the old days? There shouldn't be much snow, slush and ice salt there, is there??

We still have them all over the place in Canada. Many different products, they even use those "wands" to get it in between the body panels.

They also sell the stuff in spray cans so you can do it yourself. And even gallons you can connect to a sprayer and do it yourself. So if no one local does it, you can order it.

I just might stay away from heavily was based. I found the same barrier preventing moisture and melt salts from getting in, prevent moisture and dirt and salt from getting out. So it actually leads to rust. Might be fine for brand new car frames, but not for used ones.

First, most manufacturers (except Toyota) made better rust inhibiting improvements.
Toyota still includes the factory rust package, hence the recall on Tacos.
Second, it actually didn't work that well, it just made more $$ for the dealers.

The old days I was in Houston, Texas. No road salt ever. People did some visits to the nearby Galveston beach in the summer. Still, there were plenty of places to get your car treated.
