Cheap d ring

I went to the junk yard and found a smashed hummer3 and bought the D ring off the back bumper for 10 bucks, then I slipped it into the hole in my hitch where the pin would go...

I believe it's rated 7k lbs. so I'm good. It's a cheap quickie mod.

Personally, I will not trust junkyard shackles, much less GM products. If that thing breaks during recovery, you got a hunk of metal flying around. You can buy a NEW one for $11. Or $30 that includes the hitch from WabFab.

That hole is 5/8". The shackles that are kinda the standard are 3/4" (but are closer to 7/8")

thanks and it fits like a glove in the pin hole. i guess it was just a match made in heaven. lol

when i got stuck we used this but the hitch was attached like in the second picture so it looked like i was using the ball mount.

Not true. I've gotten stuck way more in my 4runner than I did in my Camry. In fact the more capable I make my rig the more I get stuck.

Except the fact that your camry isn't offroad-able at all so that doesn't even matter. Plus if you're getting stuck that much in your 4x4 4Runner I think it's safe to say

No way on doing it wrong, how else would I learn the limits of the vehicle without pushing it until it got stuck? The majority of the times I've been stuck was trying to keep up with dual locked, armored, and lifted rigs like yours on my club rides with only having open diffs and ~33's. The guys in the club didn't mind recovering me and I learned a ton about the limits of the vehicle on muddy Ohio trails and having to be careful in choosing lines. Plus, I got fun pics like this

That was an example of a bad line not to take and lesson learned
More seriously there wasn't really a line. Most of the other guys were jeeps with full size truck axles so they straddled the ditch and I had to give it my best shot. Convinced me to put spacers and sliders on my list of things to do soon.
