Cheap solution for those who think their new 5th Gen is sluggish

In a word, wait. Yep, that's it. Read on if you're interested.

Like many, I too initially thought my new 2016 Limited was a little down on power. But I quickly learned that the problem was more a perception than a reality, and after reading a lot of threads here about it I quickly adjusted my driving techniques and largely solved the issue.

I also read advice from many here who advised that things would change somewhat after some break-in miles, but I wasn't prepared for how much difference it made. So at around 5,000 miles I recently left on a 1,000 mile round trip pulling a 1500 pound 6x12 enclosed trailer. The first 500 miles I pulled the trailer empty. I then loaded the trailer with appx. 1500 pounds and headed home pulling a 3,000 pound load, using no trailer brakes or sway control-just the factory hitch. Given that I had no trailer brakes I drove fairly conservatively, setting the cruise on 65 mph for most of the return trip. Close to 200 miles of the trip was pretty hilly, with some fairly long grades. A few times it dropped down into 3rd gear with a corresponding significant increase in engine RPMs, but I resisted the impulse to slow down and give the engine a break. I just let it do what it did.

Evidently, at somewhere around 5800 miles the engine must have officially broken itself in. When I got home and unhooked the trailer, the difference in the vehicle's performance from before the trip was remarkable. I've driven it a few days since then to make sure I wasn't imagining the difference, but it's there. To the butt dyno it feels like as much as a 25-30 hp increase. Put another way, it feels like it's running about one gear lower than pre-break in. Third gear feels like second gear used to, and so on.

I was just fine with it before, but now it feels like a whole new truck. I'm pretty pleased!

yeah its in your head, you adjust your driving to account for the non-linear accelerator pretty quickly and don't notice it much
