cheapest auxiliary input?

hey all,
so i'm new to this forum. just got a 98' 4runner limited about a month ago. Best car ever, literally the dream car, wouldn't have it any other way of course. The only thing thats been buggin me is the lack of music that is available to me. i've been listening to mostly cd's for the past month with a little radio, but thats not cutting it anymore. Not to mention all of my cds are getting fried and damage when their left in the car due to the heat.
what i'd like to do is get a new head unit all together, however i am unable to financially afford that at the moment. So i'm looking for any ideas on a cheap temporary auxiliary input jack. I've seen kits for that online, however they seemed to be going for $70 or more. which is the price of a new head unit all together if not half the price of a nice one. so is there anything i can do to give me this?

you cant afford to go onto crutchfield.com and get a headunit for 70 bucks wid free shipping and all the required items to install it. Not trying to sound like a **** but if u cant afford that then you shouldnt worry about doing a aux. and just save up til you can get another h/u cuz u will get better sound quality and better satisfaction with a new h/u. sorry again not meaning to sound ****ish

New headunits are cheaper now than they have ever been. I would suggest saving up until you can get a new radio with an aux input. If you simply cannot wait that long, try your local Craigslist or swap meets for an FM Modulator. That will let you connect an MP3 player thru the existing radios' antenna

You can actually get them cheaper but this is what came up on my first search. Just use it until you get enough money for a good head unit. It works well if you ask me.

unfortunately there is no cassette player, other wise i would have gotten the cassette adapter. I planned on getting a new head unit in the next few weeks, after the first of the month has passed and the bills are paid, i was just looking to see if there was any wiring i could mess around with to set up an aux jack. any way looks like i'll just wait it out

I just did a mod on my 07 corolla where i soldered a headphone extension cable directly to the stereo circuit board and now have aux input on the factory h.u.

I know its not the same unit but i bet it could be done. Heres the writeup. Check all the links and comments for clues to translate to yours, i think i read somewhere how to test for the correct solder points with a multi meter.
