Check Eng light

I have a 2000 T4R with the check eng light on, code PNL? What does this code mean? It needs to be smoged in CA and they will not do it with the check eng light on. I have taken it to several mech's and all said it needed something different ranging from replacing all 4 co2 sensors to replacing the cad converter priced from $1200 to $3800. It runs great, no other problems. Did all the things suggested in this form, didn't help. Please help. P.S. I am female, hope that's not part of the problem. Thanks

might be....go to a checkers or autozone and have them pull a real code for you for free, i've never heard of a "PNL" code on any car or truck, here's a list of the obdII codes

that said, i don't know what PNL means so i can't suggest anything, you should just get someone to pull the bulb on the light for you till you can go through emissions, haha.....

maybe someone knows what this code means, but i wouldn't pay for any of the repairs mentioned until you get one of the codes on the list.....

Could be something as simple as the gas cap not on there right, but without a specific code I can't help any farther. Like stated above, go to a automotive store and have them read the code.

well hey, way to trust your instincts , hang around for a bit pick up some of the basics and learn, always nice to see a female take an interest in her vehicle, it's a nightmare even trying to remind my wife to check the oil every now and again....let us know what you come back with then you can go from there. in future when the light comes on go straight to auto zone type place and get them to pull the code then go home and Google it for your car, from there you can start to figure out whats going on. this is pretty much applicable to any modern car. :bluejump:

Disconnect your battery for a few minutes and it will reset the codes. As long as it's nothing too serious, the lights will stay off for awhile. It might be enough to get you through the Smog. That's what I do here in Texas. My CEL will stay off for 500 miles or so.

I went to an Autozone in California last week, and the rep there said they don't pull codes anymore. He said it was related to an emission law passed about 2 yrs ago. Then proceeded to try and sell me a $60 scanner.

In Sacramento CA, you can get the codes from any auto store. This was last year.
You can also buy this code reader for $20 on ebay.
