Check engine after water pump/Tbelt change

So I did my Timing belt over a year ago and then my water pump started leaking so back in I went.

Now after I got it all back together and all seemed well with the engine warming up i took it down the road. within 1/2 mile ish it seemed down on power and the check engine light and vcs etc lights all lit up. I figured might have been from disconnecting the cam sensor etc during the t-belt removal so i reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery. On first start up the idle was a tad ruff then jumped up to about 1500rpm and the lights came back on.

And thats where I sit this evening, ill be going to get it scanned in the morning to see whats up but does anyone have any insight on what may be causing this, highly doubt its the belt being off a tooth the runs smooth as ever still just those lights and idle currently.

Hi Z,
which code the ECU (engine light ) presents ?
I have an Hilux Surf (4Runner) from 1994 Manual, 3L Turbo Diesel , and start to show the code 14.
Already changed air-filter, fuel filter, clean the diesel pump...
Until the engine reaches normal operating temperature, no alarm, and the engine runs normally.
When the engine reaches normal temperature, lights the alarm, and starts to make a knocking noise valves (?) or injectors ?
The mechanic suspects of the ecu... Is possible that it is the ecu fault?
In my case I would like to eliminate all other possible causes before considering replacing the ECU, so I will check the operation of the crankshaft sesor as i have read in another forum that may be the cause.
I recomend to you to confirm also the crankshaft sesor...
My only problem is know where is the crankshaft sensor on my car.
Regards

timing is off, unfortunatly. you going to have to go in again.

Think you may be right, looking back through diy threads people have made etc think I lined the cams to the T mark not the line which would be the correct timing mark. I'll pull the cover to verify, damn such a stupid mistake.

on tooth will do it. lets hope no damage.

realizing you made a mistake is the smartest thing! it happens to the best of us. at least you get a chance to go back in and fix it.

Yup thats the ticket, stupid mistake luckily didnt do any damage. On a side note i can now do a Timing belt on the 2uz in just over two hours.

ECU code 14 "solved"

My update for all who may be interested.

The problem of the ECU code 14 are solved, and found the cause.
1 - When hot, the ohmic value of the "timing control valve" are close to max. aceptable, according I read on the internet (max 14 ohms).
2 - Replaced the regulator voltage of 5 volts at ECU. (+-4.75V)
3 - Replaced some capacitors at ecu. (just in case).

Now I note only that at 3500rpm the engine gets stuck. (the engine does not develop), but no alarms...

I'll try to find a timing control valve to change, but for now, the surf is back on the road.:pray2:

Thanks for the help.
