check engine light and VSC lights

3rd gen

New member
My 2002 SR5 just hit 80,000 miles and all of a sudden the check engine light and the two VSC lights came on. What's up with that?

Any ideas before I have it checked out?

Thanks,
Robert

Lot's of things can do that. Just get the codes read and don't waste time speculating. Many auto parts stores will read it for free or lend you a scanner to do it. It's easy. Then search on the code in this forum. Post up any questions after that.

I believe the VSC lights always come on when the CEL is on, so if you fix the whatever the CEL codes are, the VSC should turn off too.
Am i correct on that?

Thanks!

i was just mainly wondering if the VSC lights were tied to the CEL. I will run the codes and see what I find.

Yes, the VSC light will always come on with the check engine light. I think its more of a failsafe in case the bulb ever burnt out, you'd know there was an issue.

when you have an mil/cel on vsc, trac, abs (whichever the vehicle may have will come on. it is a fail safe. those features will not operated while mil/cel is on because the computer that communicates with those features does not know if the problem relates so it turns them on to make sure they dont cause any other problems

Could be this (the one circled in red/replaced with the newer one on the right).? Have you had the code checked yet?
