Check engine light on. OBDII code P1135.

I have a 2002 4Runner sport edition with the engine light on. My OBDII code reader picked up code P1135. (Air-Fuel Sensor Heater Circuit Response Malfunction). Is this an easy fix or would I need to bring this in for servicing. If someone knows where this sensor is located please reply and assist me. Thank you.

its more commonly known as the oxygen sensor, and is found in the exhaust.

It's Air Fuel ratio sensor. It costs about two hundred dollars at the dealer. You should make sure you give your dealer your car's VIN to match the correct part. You can also get it online from Denso. It's cheaper, but I'm not sure how much cheaper when including shipping cost. I recently changed it on my 02 tacoma. For my tacoma, there were two sensors, one after the first cat converter and the other one after the second cat converter. I had to change the one after the first cat converter.

yes the newer 4runners use the A/F sensors and they are a bit more expensive. More than likely the one before the cat. That's the one that usually throws codes. You can also get them online from URD.

Its cheaper and exactly what you need. I had the same problem about 4 months back and this fixed it. Its oem too.

I had this same code (2002 - 91300 miles). Both AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts will read the code free. Once I removed the old A/ F sensor, I used an ohmn meter touching both black wires. The meter didn't move - the circit was open. I purchased an A/F Ratio sensor commonly called an O2 sensor at www.sparkplugs.com

but found one cheaper at amazon.com . I've seen that a denso brand was the best . The new A/F sensor had resistence .... To reset the 4Runner's computer I just disconnected the negative side of the battery for a few minutes ....... Reconnected it and then started the engine .. No more light.

1. No doubt on a P1135 on a 2001. It's your Front A/F sensor

2. Part number is 234-9002, not 934-9002. This one:

1) [MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION] is correct, it's and Air/Fuel Sensor for code p1135. I believe 02 sensors are still considered "generic" and therefore would have a P0135 for an 02 heater circuit. (The 1 right after P in the code designates a manufacturer specific code, while a 0 means a generic OBD code, same for all vehicles across the board, post 1996)

2) if you ever have doubts, you can always check your smog label on your hood. It will say something at the bottom like "EVAP, SFI, AFS, H02S" as those are the types of emission devices it has. If it says "AFS" that's obviously A/F sensor. If it has 2 02's instead, it will say "H02S(2)".

Of course you need to have the hood that came with your truck, as a lot of guys change them out.

In his case, being a 2001, there is no confusion. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is an A/F sensor on all 4Runners. But you are correct: P1135 is A/F only.

NO IT'S NOT. There are two different sensors that Toyota used, depending upon year and emissions package. It is important not to confuse the two different sensors.


Look around carefully online, you can get this sensor for about $150 shipped.
