Check engine light

Ok everyone. here is the breakdown. my 98 t4R has had the check engine light come on and off the past few days. I went and had the codes run, it came back as a #6 cylinder misfire. I did a bit of searching on the forums here and its seems to usually be a fuel injector or spark plug.

my question is, if the light sometimes comes on when i start, or sometimes after i have been driving for a short distance which is more probable? and sometimes its on when i start, but then turns off after i drive for a bit

A spark plug is like $5 max and takes maybe 2 min to replace.
Seems like the simplest thing would be to that first and see what happens.
