I see them pretty often. I just sent a craigslist link to my boss to buy as a "work truck". Next day it was taken down.

It was cut down and converted. There are quite a few running around the PNW the same way, mostly beat to crap crawlers though and usually 2nd gens. [MENTION=65505]Kotrin[/MENTION] has a sweet 3rd gen that's nicely finished and built though local to me. That price is crazy, I bet they're making a killing if it sells for that.

Yeah I'm super happy with mine that one looks different though in the way the back is built. Would love to see how the 'bed' looks. The one from a guy I used to know Tommy (it was a 4th gen one done) and mine are similar in the bed setup.

I think it looks cute, in the novelty sort of way.
If someone gave one to me, for free, I would gladly take it. But I would never buy one, because the reasons I drive a T4R instead of a pickup are no longer there on it (secure and dry cargo storage, ability to carry large items on roof, and rear traction). I would have to jerry-rig the living hell out of that thing to make it suit my needs (just like I had to do, and would have to to with a regular pickup). A pickup never did me much good. They are extremely impractical for my needs.
Plus, I am one of those weird dudes who doesn't watch sports, doesn't equate boob size as "bigger is better", doesn't like Harleys, and doesn't require a vehicle to validate my manhood (the main reason most guys drive pickups). :biggrin2:

I don't mind the look, but definitely seems less functional than stock. I just wish Toyota kept the removal tops like on the 1st gens. That seems like it gives the best of both worlds (Besides probably alot of extra wind noise and maybe chance of leaks)
I've always been curious if anyone out there ever chopped and fit a tacoma or 1st gen runner style hard top onto their runner (2nd or later gen). I'm sure it wouldn't be at all worth the time and money, but I'd still like to see it.

if you went through my signature and looked you could see I've owned 2 other 3rd gen, Tacoma x2 and a 5th gen very built. I personally love the way mine is built now. The window can roll down without a problem. My bed is actually a truck bed so when I swing out my swing-away I have a flat surface for working on things or cooking on it. I have an outside area that can get wet or whatever and I have a dry surface inside. Im slowly workig on a completely overtop setup for my roofrack for the little extra things as I found out during camping I don't have enough room if I want 4 people.
But when its warm outside and I have the top down in the back and we're cruising around on the beach its insane, every single person I know loves it and wants one like mine
