Checking in from Oregon

This is my third runner in 18 years, 2015 Trail Edition. Never used one up yet, but I do like that new car smell. Seems like they just keep getting better and better. I use mine for hauling boats and crappy river roads, besides being my daily driver. Hope to glean a few tips as I transition this ride into the ultimate fly fishing rig...

Oregon Trail Runner update

Guess I should check back on this thread once in awhile. Thanks to all for the kind comments and welcomes. I'm just going to use this thread as my build/adventure thread to keep from cluttering up the forum.

Well, the runner turned one year old last month and just over 16,000 miles. I, on the other hand, have been planning an Oregon adventure for this summer which required research into my own Oregon family history. Turns out I'm a 6 Gen Oregonian, not 5th (should have been able to count better) and 10 gen American(1st gen burned at the stake by the Canadians in the French/Indian wars, 2 gen fought the Brits for independence). My great great great grandfather Jerome Bonaparte La Follette came to this part of the country in 1862. I'll be retracing the family movements in the state and visiting some of the old homesteads. Might even share a few of the legends I've been able to uncover. Fun stuff.

Meanwhile, the runner got a few updates. I customized a TRD skid plate to fit with the KDSS. I swapped out the roof basket for a Gobi Rack. Added a ConsoleVault and TruckVault. Both are great for locking up my stuff when I travel. Tossed in WeatherTech mats to keep the carpets clean as it is a fishing rig. I'm now building a cooler/stove slide out and sleeping platform for this road trip I'm planning. Also looking at a suspension upgrade before too long. Truck has not missed a beat, but then it's a Toyota. Looking at Icon or Ironman for the upgrades, but need to research it a little more. Definitely need more spring in the rear to carry the loads.

After this last photo was taken I swapped this Gobi Rack out as there was a cracked weld on the light bar mount. That's why I'm not running the wind deflector in these shots. Gobi sent a new rack and picked up the old one. Great service. Just had to uninstall/install. Took me half a day doing it alone, but not a big deal. Added the body protection strip under the deflector and off we go. My Oregon Trail Adventure awaits...
