Checking Paid Off

I check my tire pressures about twice per week. The driver's rear was 5 lbs below what it should have been last night and stayed stable overnight. Went to fill it up today and the valve was f'd up.

For some reason it was only leaking to this pressure and not further. Wouldn't have noticed this otherwise and it could've gone really sour at a much worse time.

I hope this pressure difference was the reason my rear end felt sluggish and wonky this week. I was thinking it could be something with the links or sway bar, but I'll stick with this.

ya one of my tires i think has a bad valve stem so i gotta keep on top of it ... ill have it fix this next tire rotation though

It's a nice chance to just see the sidewall condition, and to see what's happening with the wheels and suspension at the same time. I never did anything to my old CR-V, and checked the pressures one day and had a 20, a 22, a 26 and a 28--FOUR DIFFERENT PSIs (and none of them good). Glad I dropped that puppy like a hot potato because it was demotivational to work on.

I had one of those analog pressure gauges that crapped out on me the other day. It didn't reset itself to zero but at 5psi so when I was checking my pressure it was over by that amount. I went out and bought a digital tire pressure gauge made by craftsman.

I HATE pressure gauges. I have a coffee can full of them...and I throw out the really bad ones. Digitals don't seem any more accurate or long-lived than the others. Needle-types seem the best to me, but I have to keep checking their accuracy. (I have an expensive liquid-filled job on my compressor, so I use that to calibrate. New gauges always confirm it is accurate and stays accurate.)

Yeah it was a needle type pressure gauge that failed on me.

I just use one my dad has from 35 years ago. It works or the guys who put air in the tire with the fixed valve just copied the other three tires on my car.
