so I live in the middle of no place. Last October I replaced my radiator and a few other things. But in the middle of my repair I needed another hose clamp. So went to the nearest parts store....autozone...and got a clamp.
yesterday...in the middle of no place....15 miles form cell service the cheap ass china made hose clamp broke. for no reason, just came undone,,,snapped. Lower radiator hose decided to leave the radiator dumping all my fluids. I had a gallon of water ( part of my winter snow survival stuff, but not enough).
I took the clamp off my intake (spectre) to fix my hose, then hiked down to the McKenzie river to get more water.
When I got it all up to full, I went to drive back to work/home, and the yota ran like crap, I feared a blown head gasket.
luckily, the next day when I had a chance I looked through our shop and found a clamp the fit my intake. no sign of water in the oil or under the oil cap. drove it and it ran fine, so the intake was sucking too much air...I guess. In the meantime , a coworker was driving to town on his day off and I asked him to get me some antifreeze, red asian preferred. In the meantime my truck is sitting there at night , with temps in the low 20's with nothing but water in the system. He brought back some prestone...yes I know not the right stuff, but better then water. And it says for ALL vehicles.
today ( my day off) drove down and got distilled water and flushed the system and put in "Asian" red fluid....best I could get.( not Toyota) the nearest yota dealer was more than another half hour away.
moral of the story....
if your spending the bucks for a oem radiator, thermostat and Toyota coolant...don't get cheap ass crap hose clamps made in china
btw, I also replaced all my upper and lower radiator clamps today, with clamps made in the USA
