How bad was the damage on the armor on the 99? The bumpers looked pretty good all things considered. Maybe you should sell them, or give them away, you know, like charity. I know a poor guy who could use them

The front bumper is really tweaked. The rear is decent and could probably be fixed but I won't know till I pull it off.. as of right now I am guessing I will order the main rear bumper portion and reuse my swing out. The sliders are still perfect so I will grind off the welds and re-use them for sure. If you were closer I would cut you a deal

I'm hoping my suspension is still good!

It was kind of a sad weekend. Moved the 99 into my brothers shop to begin dismantling.

She fired right up and sounded just as good as it ever did. 162k on the clock. Not sure if I should just store the motor and trans or sell on craigslist :/

Then actually limped it to the shop.. this was really sucky and sad feeling it struggle to move and head towards the end of its life to be stripped then recycled.

I feel your pain... I bet it hurt. I would've asked for the glass from your headlights, but it looks like one is broke (driver side....)

I need to get mine swapped out before winter.

I just spent the last couple of hours reading through your build thread. It was awesome seeing the progress you made only to find out what happened in the end. It definitely sucks but at least you were safe. Itll be interesting to see what you do differently for the next rig when you start building it.

I think this time I will be going with a darker theme as far as painting the silver trim black, black retrofits.. but as for the basics of it, it should all be very similar. I was building it the way I really wanted the first time so only difference now is going to be cosmetic I am stoked though to have more engine compartment room than the 99 so that will be nice. I am also thinking of getting rid of the limited wood trim and going black trim inside.

Loaded up the 4runner this last weekend and went camping with the family. Actually got everything to fit and the 4runner didnt sag much and rode great. Super impressed with this runner.. the engine is mega smooth and quiet.

On a side note, camping in major camp sites/ parks.. really sucks. They are basically cities in the woods and its louder out there than it is at home.. Future camping will be in the woods in a non-designated camp site where you have to pee on a tree and the only running water will be a stream! This "city" camping sucks!

Also stopped and pulled another small box of parts off of the 99. This weekend I am hoping to get the engine and trans pulled. Once that is done I will start pulling the suspension.

Leave for vacation and come back to find you've got yourself an excellent new start! Really nice color, will look good with black. Hard to look and the poor old 99 but am glad you are able to get much out of it.

Completely agree with the small city campgrounds, dispersed camping only please! Because we go places like the Maze district we use a camp toilet. Also peeing on trees, at least for you guys, is no big deal but there's those other situations. Ours is a PETT and the individually packaged cleanwaste wag bags. Wag bags aren't too horrible to deal with, in a bucket and later in a random trash can. That, or a trowel, depending on where.

Pulled more parts on the 99.. now its like a vacant homeless shelter in there.. Sold all the seats and door panels to one person which was nice.

Then I was getting overwhelmed and a little bummed out about how much work there is to pull all the stuff that's left on the 99.. (motor, trans, suspension, cut off rock sliders, etc.. ).. let alone installing it all back on the 2002. I decided to cut it short Saturday pulling parts and installed a few simple things on the 2002.

Got all my speakers swapped over except for rear sub. I still need to swap my stereo and install my amps. I'm hoping this will go fast since everything is to length and I pulled it with the least amount of upsetting the wires from the 99. I'm really sick of not having Bluetooth for music and my antenna going up and down all the time.

Also swapped out all the wood grain trim to black. I like it so much more!

Also went with blue leds this time around. Swapped the dash, key bezel, shifter lights, HVAC back lighting, ash tray... Only got a pic of the dash right now. It doesn't look that great with the stereo still green but that will change soon enough.

Good work. Like the way you stepped back and went another route when it began to seem like the huge project it is. Sometimes just getting some stuff done is necessary.
Definitely turning what is many of us' biggest nightmares into something good.

That blue swap is gonna make me do some research on the led swap....our Volkswagen has blue w/red needles, my favorite cluster light color so far.

Not long ago I had swapped out the bulbs in the 87 4Runner to blue and was really happy with how they turned out so it was motivation for this runner.. plus with it being stellar Blue pearl I figured it fit with the theme

I haven't done much to my 3rd gens this last week due to changing the clutch in my 87 4runner since it died trying to teach my kids to drive a manual

Did get some new JDM parts though:

I picked up my front spare diff from getting the ARB installed. Not sure when I will install in runner yet since I still have so much to do.

I was suffering without my music and bluetooth and since I have a small road trip coming up I really wanted to get my stereo installed. This took a good portion of the weekend.

Then while trying to get grab handle off to run microphone these screws were basically seized in there with blue loctite.. not sure why but it was a pain in the arse getting it out and took way too much time.

Then mounted the capacitor things or whatever they are called in the doors to block bass from the tweeters.

And all done and working great... and now my 4runner feels a lot like the old one which makes me happy

This last weekend I put the bug shield on to complete the soccer mom car look and took it on its first road trip.

400 miles each way in 90 degree weather, AC cranked, 75mph down the freeway, loaded up and it did great

I haven't done much which is really starting to bug me :/ I have all this stuff sitting around but busy working on other crap. I did find time to make a new fuse block bracket and mount it.
