Chrome on hatch bezel is delaminating ?

I thought this was pretty interesting. Just started a day or so ago and I'm not sure what would have caused it aside from age. The material is thick and doesn't just push back down like a decal, so it was kind of a surprise.

Obviously I'll try to find another one to replace it. This one has about 245,000 miles and I did have it off recently to replace the rubber on the latch button.

Has anyone seen this before?

:frusty: :playball:

Quality keeps going down while prices keep going up. They figured out chrome back in the 1920s but a hundred years later we have peeling.

Its plastic
Its chrome'd
its plastic chrome'd
its a different process than the electro plating like you would do to a metal bumper. It is a film that "adheres" to the plastic but it can peel, tons of ford pickup grilles peel, like its pretty common with age. I replaced mine on my 2012 years ago it was doing something similar. Its just kinda part of it, basically, you got 245,000 miles out of it, it still works as intended, its not a mission critical part, its only cosmetic. If you are like 65% of owners, your paint on your front end is chipping and peeling and getting cancer... This part is no different, while it looks unsightly, its simply a cosmetic part and offers zero gain regardless of which way it looks. They can be replaced if it worries you bad enough, but its just a cosmetic piece. The TRD Sport models come painted to match the body color, if you want to order one painted to match your body color and ditch the chrome you could try that.

Curious...why do people black our their license plate?? When you drive on the road, thousand of people see your plate #every day?? Not judging, just wondering whats the reasoning?? I never do...should I??

in an increasingly digital world, a license plate is an identifier. it's one piece of a puzzle to recreate someone's identity. leaving the smallest digital footprint is a prudent thing to do - within reason of course.

maybe I like the OP's 4runner, particularly those nice new rims and tires he installed. I can see where he's from based on the plate decal, his other posts, and his pictures perhaps - maybe we are from the same area. maybe I have a friend at the DMV who is less than ethical and it just so happens I'm looking for some new rims and tires. I give him the plate, he can give me the OP's address for $500. OP wakes up the next day and this is what he sees in his driveway

of course the above scenario could have happened anyway, but it takes two seconds to blur the plate if it gives someone piece of mind.
