Chrome Trim around windshield

Next step in de-chroming this thing is all that chrome around the windshield. I want to remove it and just have the black rubber trim. My question is though, is the chrome simply trim that can be removed leaving just the windshield gasket or is it part of the gasket so removing the chrome means replacing the gasket? I really don't want to have to pay for a factory gasket and a window guy to replace it just to loose that stupid chrome.

thanks

The chrome is held in by clips imbeded in DTV,as the etc breaks down the trim rubs the metal causing issues . You can pull trim but will still have the clips unless you break them off, I bought a rubber one piece gasket and used it instead of gliding it back in . It was like 50-70 bucks and some spray lube and string ,check with local glass company on gasket

When i bought mine i had a little rust under the trim. i removed my trim and did a lazy rust repair.Left my trim off for a couple of years. Ended up with water and air leaks and more rust. fixed it right. Just had rubber gasket new window installed. It's way better than the chrome.

The poster above replaced his trim with a rubber gasket. The consensus is that it is easier and cheaper to let a windshield company do it for you. Some people have them come out and remove the windshield, owner makes rust repair and windshield company comes back out to replace it. If you take the chrome off now you have what looks like black caulk glopped around the glass. Not attractive. The chrome is held on by plastic clips that will break if you try to remove them.

There's a thread here about it:

i have this same delema. i was just going to plasti-dip the chrome trim... no issues with new glass or new gasket or anything leaky and a lazy way around it. though, getting new glass, or a winshield guy to replace the gasket is best. let us know the route you take! and pics! :)
