Chugging pulsation between 45-50mph

Im having a hard time trying to figure out why my 06 4wd v6 4runner has this problem, between speeds of 45 and 50 i have noticed a chugging pulsation like problem. If i put in 4th gear it stops, but if i resume in drive it starts pulsating or chugging is what others say its like. I did research on this and found that it could possibly be the TCC solenoid (torque converter clutch). Anyone experiencing anything similar?

Transmission shudders I think is the term. I would take it to several good tranny shops to get them to check into it and get an estimate.


I know the feeling and sensation you are talking about. I experienced this old my previous Passat which had a crappy tranny.

Thanks I really hope its just a solenoid and nothing mayjor. Cant aford to replace a tranny.

I believe some have had luck fixing this problem by changing out the trans fluid, either machine flush or several drain and fills.

I have checked into a flush and Toyota wants $300 for the service. I think Im going to do a drain and fill using the tocoma method, using a gallon jug and the output line on the tranny. It seems to work well, plus it would save me $$. Has anyone had any tranny troubles like this?

Have you tried taking to the service advisors from the dealers and finding out what it could possibly be. I would call a few just so you have an idea what you are up against. They may not be able to tell you but doesnt hurt to ask

How many miles on you 4runner. An 06 is still a fairly newish car and I'm surprised it's having tranny problems.
