Cigarette Lighter Failed

So I installed a Kenwood headunit and 4 new speakers after I put everything back together the cigarette lighter doesnt have power. I'ver read around people are saying the ACC fuse is the one that is connected to the lighter's circuit, but also say the radio would not work. But my radio works fine, but i checked the fuse anyway and it was fine. So I turned the key on and checked the plug for power and the meter said there was no power. So is the lighter on a different circuit,useing a different fuse, or is there other things I should check for? Thanks,

Did you mix the plugs up between the power outlet and the lighter? Does the lighter work with the ignition on?

Well if your are talking about the 2 plugs that go into the back they are different, one is shaped like and "L" and the other is smaller and grey. And no theres is no power anytime.

I might be mixing up my cars, but I think the 4Runner plug has a fusible link built into the bottom of the socket. If it burns out, you either replace the socket, or ghetto bypass it and lose the protection. If there is power to the wires but not in the socket, that's probably the issue.

The other possibility is you pulled the connector off while working on the other wires. You would not be the first to have done that.

No, the little plug is for the light around the socket. Sorry, I forgot '96s dont have the extra "power ports" near the lighter. Are you checking for power in the L shaped connector itself or in the lighter when its plugged in? If your dash clock (not the one on the radio) turns on then you have power to the lighter as its the same circuit. Check the continuity of the fusible link on the lighter socket.

Check for a loose ground or frayed connection..

make sure plug is in snug!
i did this once and found out plug slipped out when i put the dash back together

Alright thanks for all the replies guys, I will check all those possible problems and see whats going on.
