Cigarette Lighter Flashlight

Not really a 'mod' - I just wanted to share some information since I couldn't find it last time I searched.

I ordered two different Rechargeable Cigarette Lighter Flashlights to see how they'd fit in my 2006 SR5 V6.

I ordered the Spotlight Rechargeable Flashlight and the Nebo 5613 35 Lumens Highbeam Rechargeable Flashlight

'Spotlight' on top, in black. 'Nebo' in green, on bottom:

Truthfully, I'm not too concerned about lumens since this is such a little light and it's regular use would really just be for minor things. I'm most concerned about how it fits in the outlets.

The Spotlight wins all around due to its little plastic adapter that makes it snug in either the ACC outlet or the Cigarette lighter outlet. The Nebo's spring makes it want to pop out a little too much so it ends up not recharging all the time.

I can take the plastic adapter off the Spotlight and it fits in the regular Cig Outlet and charges nicely.

Or, if I leave the plastic adapter on, it fits nicely in the 12v ACC outlet.

Here's what the little plastic ring adapter looks like:

It also fits and charges properly in the rear ACC outlet.

The Nebo, on the other hand, is taller, so it sticks out more. And the spring in it makes it want to 'jump' out of the outlet. I've unscrewed the Nebo and cut the spring in half to help with this. It seems to be working, but is still a little fidgety.

Here are the Nebo photos, just in case you want to see how it looks.

I just installed the 'Ashtray Smokers Kit' which gave me the two outlets up front, I'd advise anyone who's on the fence to do it.

tl;dr: I like this one:

I've been thinking about messing with the ashtray setup... What does the inside of the compartment look like? Is it tiny?

Yep, it's tiny. I haven't really figured out what to put in there yet, since I don't smoke. Honestly, the compartment that was there on the non-ashtray part wasn't much bigger. I'll snap some pics later tonight, I couldn't find any on here. It lights up a little bit inside the ash insert - and the whole thing pops out for cleaning/emptying.

So, I might use it for coins or something. I suppose you could store your USB power adapter in there if it was a good fit... hmm, I'll give that a shot.

Thanks, that's a great idea!

Are those outlets switched by the ignition or should I be aware of a draw on the battery when the ignition is turned off?

Hmmm... Those photos makes me rethink that setup. Can you remove all the crap in the container?

I tried to take the metal ash tap thing out when I first got it. I just tried again and was successful, seems I just had to pull harder for the clip to come out. Sadly, the rest of the inside is molded plastic and doesn't come out. I suppose you could file it down, but I don't plan on doing that.

Does the light stay lit always when plugged in?

I actually have this one and it worked well in my old truck but got left out for a while when i got the 4Runner and now it won't recharge, although it seems to remain lit all the time when plugged in (which it didn't do before?)

Both of the ones I tested had a dim red glow to them while charging and the car was on. Once they are fully charged, they aren't supposed to glow, but I haven't seen that yet. It's so dim that it doesn't bother me, I actually kinda like it, it's a little easier to orient your hand around the console using your peripheral vision at night.

They don't turn on unless the car is on. I don't worry about battery drain with these.

Nice thread, I've had the spotlight flashlights since they came out. I actually bought the smoker ashtray kit just to be able to charge it in my 4Runner since the originals didn't come with the adapter. Nice to see I'm not the only one who values these things, I have 1 in both cars
