Cigarette lighter

I have my console taken apartand am looking to tap into the cigarette lighter outlet to add an extra outlet underneath me dash for a Roady 2. My question is does anyone know which wire is gound and which is power? one wire is black with silver stripes, the other is white with silver stripes. Both are attached to the bottom of the female end. The black wire is attached to a brassy color metal and the white wire is attached to a grey metal. Thanks in advance, Pete

Wouldn't it be easier and more functional to add the ashtray? It comes with a cigarette lighter to go with the power outlet so you have 2 up front. It's about $40 and a 2-minute install.

White wires with black stripes (W/B) are almost exclusively ground wires in the 4th gen. In any case, you should never assume. If you're going to do any kind of wiring it makes sense to invest $5-$10 for a basic multimeter or continuity tester.

In your case, the front 12V power outlet (it's not a cigarette lighter) uses BR/R (Brown w/ Red stripe) for power and W/B for ground. There is a plug under the console for the add-on cigarette lighter. It uses P/L (Pink w/ Blue stripe) for power and W/B for ground.

The wiring manuals are posted in the forums ... click search.

In response to question about lighter kit, I already have it, do not smoke but wanted a hidden power source for my XM Roady. This is what I was tapping off of.
By trial and error I found out the white wire with silver stripes is the hot wire and the black wire with silver stripes is the ground.
Was supprised at how easily the center console comes apart and goes back together. Just adding finishing touches but install went very well.

Ya'll just reminded me to order this mod the next time I am at the stealership. I saw that the plug was already in place when I took apart the center console this past weekend. I could use the extra 12volt plug for the cellphone and/or Sat radio!

I did this for my Sirius Sportster. I do not have the ashtray but wanted a hidden power source. I tapped the pink/blue for power and just have my Sportster plugged into an aux 12v outlet stuffed under the console. Wire comes out of the cup holder where I have my display. Nice and clean.

Where did you mount your Roady2?

I went to a Verizon Wireless store and got a goose neck to mount it to. Here are a few pict's.
