City gas mileage, 5th gen V6 4runners (2010+)

Hey folks, I had to delete and recreate these gas mileage polls. I was unaware that the polls would get shown to readers in all forums for all generations of 4runners, and we were getting respondents from all forums about all years of 4runners. This poll is only intended for 5th generation 4runners. Sorry for the confusion.

What is your average gas mileage during city driving? (Not highway.) I might suggest that you not respond to the poll until you have a couple of thousand miles on the truck. Many people have reported that the truck's gas mileage changes a bit after it has broken in.

Lots of people seem to ask what sort of gas mileage everyone is getting in their 5th gen 4runners. I figure having some polls for both city and highway gas mileage would be useful. If these polls get used enough, maybe they can be made sticky? And if you're curious, I noted the V6 in the subject line just in case Toyota comes out with a V8 option later. We'd probably want a separate poll for that.

I get 12-13MPG city.

I have a feeling just about everyone is going to be <16.

Yeah, I was debating making additional entries down to 14 or even lower, but I wasn't sure how many people really got hit that bad.

I'm very surprised to see people hitting 19+ mpg in the city. There have been many days I reset the gas mileage computer and then drive insanely slow and carefully for days at a time trying to maximize mileage, and I still can't top 17 no matter what I do. I don't know how people do it. I guess my city mileage is poor because I live in a pretty hilly area? Maybe those very high city mileage folks live in flat areas? Or it's possible their idea of city driving might be my idea of highway.

It might also be the tires you chose. My mileage took a hit when I put on the LT tires, then it took another hit when I added the rack, and it took another hit when the winter gas (10% Ethanol) arrived at the local stations.

And my personal observation is that the 4Runner gets really good mileage at 45 on flat roads.

RE:city mileage

Gotta be light on the pedal to get good mileage, as well as timing the traffic lights. We live in FL for ~7mo & the terrain is pretty flat too. Rest of the time is in PA which has more hills. Avg in PA is closer to 18....

Especially in a vehicle this heavy. It takes a whole lot of gas to get 4700+ pounds of truck moving. The less you have to accelerate, the better.
